PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between So Hai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrew King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, So Hai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Andrew King!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, David Schapiro and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King throws a front kick aimed at Hai's knee but Hai avoids it well.
King fails with the takedown

and Hai counters with a single leg into guard. King didn't expect that.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
King is looking to stand up but Hai isn't so interested in that idea.
King can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Hai controls the pace.
Hai lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
King is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hai passes King's left leg - he's now in half guard.
King won't allow Hai to pass to mount.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hai performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Hai with the ground and pound but King uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Hai trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Hai controlling from the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
King working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Hai.
King avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
King wants to stand up but Hai is controlling him.
Hai is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Hai will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The ref stands the fighters back up. So Hai wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Hai takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A head kick misses from King.
King fails in his attempt to clinch.
King shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hai as he jumps to the side.
King jabbing away but nothing is landing.
The fight stays on the outside here - King looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
King throws a head kick but Hai moves out of range.
King has his takedown stuffed

and Hai counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
So Hai has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andrew King.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hai perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
King blocking the ground and pound attempt from Hai.
King looks gassed!
King avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Hai.
King is in trouble now - Hai has advanced to mount!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The referee warns King that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hai lands with some strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

So Hai dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Hai shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Hai engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Hai stops King from standing up.
Hai controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Hai slips nicely into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hai throwing shots but King is blocking nicely.
King has hold of Hai's hands but Hai slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Hai landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Hai seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
So Hai overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hai drops an elbow to the side of King's head.
King is breathing heavily.
Hai not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hai connects with a nice short shot to King's temple.


King is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hai lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt King quite badly. King pulls Hai in close trying to recover. Hai postures up and lands two really hard shots that put King on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but King doesn't seem to be complaining too much.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). So Hai!
