PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sid Savage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Locke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Savage comes into the arena with the scatman blaring out of the sound system. Locke has chosen Star Wars - Imperial March as his entrance music. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sid Savage!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, John Locke!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Ryoma Takatsuka and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Locke gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Savage to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Savage is looking to work some ground and pound but Locke has wrist control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Locke had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Savage defends it easily.
Savage looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Savage has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Locke preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Locke is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Locke is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Savage is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Savage has escaped and now he's on top!

Locke drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Locke jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Locke goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Savage rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Locke's guard! Nice work there by Savage!

Savage got a little sloppy there for a moment and Locke has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Savage has managed to get both his arms back between Locke's legs - danger averted.

Savage throws a lazy right hand but Locke sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

No joy there for Savage, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Savage connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Savage lands a nice hook to Locke's body. Locke takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

A slow jab from Savage misses its intended target.
Savage looks to score with a jab to the body but Locke is just out of range.
Savage scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Locke takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Savage swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Locke counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Savage's guard now.

Savage pushes Locke off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Savage shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Locke is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Savage defends well.
Savage stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Locke swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Savage wants to control from the top but Locke keeps moving.
Savage slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Savage throws a big elbow that misses.
Savage postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Locke has momentary wrist control but Savage slips an elbow through the middle.

Locke is looking for a triangle but Savage pushes his legs off easily.

Locke looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Savage has picked Locke up and slammed him! Locke can't keep hold of the triangle and Savage manages to pass to side control!
