PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Daryl Escarpe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Bader (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Escarpe comes to the cage accompanied by Pumped Up Kicks. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Daryl Escarpe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ryan Bader!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Aleksandr Martynov and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Escarpe gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Bader to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Escarpe looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Bader sitting in guard here, content to control.
Bader passes Escarpe's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Bader frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Bader controlling the position easily from mount.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Bader cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

It looks like Bader might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Escarpe might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Bader is landing with some decent strikes but Escarpe is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Bader working for a submission but Escarpe is keeping him at bay.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan Bader dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Bader closes the distance and pushes Escarpe back into the cage.

Bader tightens his grip and picks Escarpe up, before dumping him to the ground. Escarpe manages to land in guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Ryan Bader has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Escarpe shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bader as he avoids it easily.

Escarpe tries to keep at a distance but Bader has taken the fight into the clinch.

Bader jumps into guard, dragging Escarpe to the mat.
Bader is pulling down on Escarpe's head to control his posture.

Escarpe has gone for a leg lock! Bader slips out almost immediately though and dives into Escarpe's guard.
Bader controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Bader lands a couple of digs.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bader cracks Escarpe with a solid left hand.
Bader controls from within his opponent's guard.
Ryan Bader has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bader is pushing down on Escarpe's leg trying to pass to half guard. Escarpe is fighting to maintain full guard but Bader has managed to sneak the leg through.
Bader content to control rather than advance.

Bader postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Escarpe to stand up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Bader closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Escarpe did well to prevent Bader getting side control.
Bader perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Bader decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Bader throws a head kick but Escarpe moves out of range.

Bader feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Bader has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Ryan Bader hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Bader closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Escarpe's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bader slips nicely into half guard.
Bader is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Bader is working for a submission of some sort.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan Bader showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Bader lands with an overhand left.
Escarpe looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Escarpe doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Bader drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Bader stays in close to Escarpe's body and controls the position.

Bader stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Bader feints and as Escarpe raises his hands in defense, Bader changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Bader postures up and lands a big shot to Escarpe's brow.

Bader gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Bader fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Escarpe sprawls well initially but Bader persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Nice strikes from Bader there.
Bader is taking a breather. Escarpe says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bader's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ryan Bader wasn't active enough on the ground.

Bader shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Escarpe manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Bader lands a couple of digs.
Bader is stalling in the full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ryan Bader wasn't active enough on the ground.

Bader gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Bader is struggling to control the position.

Bader lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Bader lands a nice short elbow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Bader is trying to work for a kimura but Escarpe is defending well.
Bader is taking a breather. Escarpe says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Daryl Escarpe has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Escarpe on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ryan Bader comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Bader has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
