Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kotaro Fuma (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fuji Megumi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Kotaro Fuma!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Fuji Megumi!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yukihiro Shimada and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Megumi shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Megumi is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Fuma!

Fuma tries to hold on but Megumi pushes him away.

Megumi is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Fuma has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Fuma!

Fuma tries to stand but Megumi is controlling from the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Megumi fails to land with a series of punches.
Megumi tries a low kick but Fuma avoids it.
Megumi shoots in for a double leg but Fuma sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Megumi is looking to chop away at Fuma's legs.

Fuma fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Sloppy strikes from Megumi. Those never looked like landing.
Megumi tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Megumi lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Fuma circles away quickly and effectively.
Fuma keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Megumi forces Fuma back against the cage and clinches.
Megumi can't find room to land a body shot as Fuma controls the action.
Fuma blocks an uppercut.
Megumi should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Megumi decides to pull guard.

Megumi seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Fuma stands up and waves to Megumi to follow him.
Megumi avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Megumi shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Fuma but Fuma pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Kotaro Fuma has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fuji Megumi.

Fuma gets caught flat footed, as Megumi shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Fuma wants to stand and escape but Megumi is having none of it.

Fuma controls Megumi momentarily but Megumi frees himself.
Megumi has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Fuma is proving hard to escape from.

Megumi stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Megumi moves into the clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Fuma wants to get back to striking at distance but Megumi won't allow it.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Megumi stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Megumi goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fuji Megumi dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Fuma avoids the head kick by Megumi.
Fuma leaves Megumi with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Fuma throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Megumi.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Megumi.
Fuma misses with a few strikes there.

Megumi shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Fuma wants to get back to full guard.

Fuma makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Kotaro Fuma is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Horrible takedown by Megumi or perhaps it was just good defense by Fuma which made him look bad.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Megumi throws a series of punches but Fuma moves out of range.

and Megumi counters with a takedown into side control.

Megumi is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Fuma will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Megumi is trying to get an arm triangle but Fuma is defending well.
Megumi in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Fuma regains half guard there - taking advantage of Megumi's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

Fuji Megumi has got the better of the ground game so far.
Fuma tries to get to full guard but Megumi has control of the leg.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fuji Megumi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Fuma shoots for a double leg takedown but Megumi sprawls well. He's pushed Fuma's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Megumi looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Fuma is fending him off so far but Megumi persists. Nope, Fuma circles away and we're back to standing.

and Fuma counters with a straight right hand.
Megumi tries to score a power double leg takedown but Fuma sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Megumi somewhat.
Fuma throws a series of punches but Megumi moves out of range.

and Fuma counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Fuji Megumi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Megumi shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Fuma pinned against the cage. Fuma gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Megumi stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Megumi wants it to stay on the feet.

Good leg kick by Fuma there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Fuma lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Fuma shoots in for a takedown but Megumi shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Megumi dives in and grabs Fuma's left leg, looking for a takedown. Fuma pushes down on Megumi's head and hops out.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Megumi is looking to take a break and control but Fuma is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Megumi tries to stand but Fuma controls the position and pulls Megumi into his guard.
Fuma wants to stand and escape but Megumi is having none of it.

Megumi has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Fuma is proving hard to escape from.

Fuji Megumi is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Megumi stays in close to Fuma's body and controls the position.

Kotaro Fuma showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Megumi has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
