The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Aliev is defended easily by Blackhill.
Blackhill scores with a shot to the body.
Blackhill fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Aliev manages to avoid it.
Blackhill looks to score with a jab to the body but Aliev is just out of range.

Aliev gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Aliev avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Aliev has control of Blackhill's left arm, preventing Blackhill from doing any damage.

Aliev is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Blackhill is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Aliev tries to score with some ground and pound. Blackhill controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Blackhill can do anything to dispel that myth.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

James Blackhill seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Blackhill stalling away here and it's allowed Aliev to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Aliev manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Blackhill takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
