The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paula takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Shaughnessy dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Paula looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Shaughnessy lands with a cross.
Paula fails to land the takedown.
Shaughnessy changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Shaughnessy scores with a jab to the head.
Shaughnessy leaves Paula with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Paula. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Shaughnessy displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Paula.

John Paula seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Paula on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Paula has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Shaughnessy.
Nice uppercut lands for Shaughnessy. That snapped Paula's head back.

Paula is rocked!
Shaughnessy drops Paula with a straight right hand, right on the button! Shaughnessy follows him down to the mat and pounds him out with hammerfists until the referee jumps in to end the fight!
