PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Victor Ryan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Serzh Kavershyan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kavershyan has chosen Hayastan Sirel as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Victor Ryan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Serzh Kavershyan!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Wesley Smith and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kavershyan shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ryan sprawls well. Ryan wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Kavershyan gets slowly back to his feet.
Kavershyan lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Ryan at a distance.
Kavershyan throws a sloppy head kick and Ryan moves out of range easily.
Ryan could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Ryan drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Kavershyan gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Kavershyan looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Kavershyan looking to throw knees to the head but Ryan is blocking nicely.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Ryan.
Ryan tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Kavershyan smiles and moves away.

Kavershyan fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ryan sprawls well initially but Kavershyan persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Kavershyan seems to be looking for submissions.
Ryan trying to control from the bottom.
Kavershyan wants to control but Ryan is keeping him busy.
Kavershyan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ryan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Ryan pushes Kavershyan off and gets back to his feet.
Ryan takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Kavershyan checks a low kick from Ryan.

Ryan tries to sprawl but Kavershyan drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Ryan wants to control but Kavershyan is keeping busy.
Kavershyan is looking to take a break and control but Ryan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Ryan wants to get back to full guard.

Kavershyan is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ryan is just riding it out for now. Kavershyan eventually gives up the hold.
Kavershyan misses with a head shot. Ryan uses the momentum to regain guard.
Kavershyan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Ryan looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kavershyan is one step ahead there.
Kavershyan looking to sit in guard and control but Ryan gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Kavershyan wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Ryan is now in half guard.

Ryan wants to take a breather but Kavershyan is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kavershyan wants to improve his position but Ryan is controlling well.
Kavershyan tries to kick Ryan off but Ryan keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Ryan works his way into side control.
Kavershyan gets back to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Kavershyan misses with a takedown

and Ryan counters with a shoot takedown. Kavershyan fights it but they end up in guard.
Kavershyan is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Ryan stands and throws Kavershyan's legs to the side, diving into side control.
You can see the frustration on Kavershyan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Kavershyan tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Ryan easily slips into full mount!
Kavershyan is just holding on here. Ryan manages to take his back.
Kavershyan looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Kavershyan is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Ryan really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Kavershyan.
Ryan lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Ryan.
Victor Ryan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Kavershyan tries to escape the position.
Ryan is not going to allow Kavershyan to sit and survive in this position.

Kavershyan is holding onto Ryan's left hand, preventing any choke attempts.
Ryan gets his hands free as Kavershyan looks to control.

Ryan is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ryan is not going to allow Kavershyan to sit and survive in this position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kavershyan grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Victor Ryan dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!



Kavershyan gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Kavershyan has hold of one of Ryan's legs. Ryan is fighting the takedown attempt but Kavershyan gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Kavershyan pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ryan is keeping the position for now.
Kavershyan looking to sit in guard and control but Ryan gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Ryan drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ryan jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Kavershyan is looking for a triangle but Ryan pushes his legs off easily.

Kavershyan looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Ryan passes into side control.

Ryan looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Ryan is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kavershyan is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
You can see the frustration on Kavershyan's face as Ryan controls the position.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kavershyan is trying to get back to half guard.
Ryan lands some shots froms side control.
Ryan working away.

Ryan decides to stand back up. Ryan steps back and let's Kavershyan get back to his feet.
Kavershyan tries to clinch up.
Kavershyan lands a nice hook to Ryan's body. Ryan takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kavershyan tries for a takedown but Ryan sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ryan misses with a two punch combination.
Kavershyan lands with a right hand.
Kavershyan fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ryan avoids it really well and circles away.

Kavershyan clinches up against the cage.
Kavershyan tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Victor Ryan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Serzh Kavershyan.

Kavershyan works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Ryan controls Kavershyan momentarily but Kavershyan frees himself.
Ryan tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ryan is trying to keep Kavershyan in close.
Kavershyan with a flurry of punches that miss.
Kavershyan pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ryan is keeping the position for now.
Ryan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kavershyan controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Kavershyan looks for a takedown but Ryan sprawls well.

And that's the end of the fight!
Serzh Kavershyan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kavershyan has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
