Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Trip Benson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jackson Ryan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Trip Benson has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Trip Benson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jackson Ryan!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Ryoma Takatsuka and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Benson looks for a takedown but Ryan sprawls well.
Benson swinging wildly here.
Ryan avoids the head kick by Benson.
Ryan throws a leg kick but Benson checks it.

Benson has closed the distance and engaged Ryan in a clinch.
Ryan tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Benson avoids it.
Ryan tries to pull guard but Benson holds him up against the cage and eventually Ryan drops back down to his feet.

Ryan decides to pull guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Ryan keeping moving, preventing Benson from controlling successfully.
Ryan is trying to control the position but Benson postures up.
Benson postures up in Ryan's guard and throws a big left but Ryan blocks it.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jackson Ryan wasn't active enough on the ground.
Ryan is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Benson.

Benson's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Benson goes for a takedown attempt but Ryan pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Ryan keeps the fight on the outside.

Benson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Ryan counters with a shoot takedown. Benson fights it but they end up in guard.

Ryan decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Benson, up you get!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Benson dives in and grabs Ryan's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ryan pushes down on Benson's head and hops out.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Ryan is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Benson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Benson has escaped and now he's on top!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ryan tries to strike from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Ryan is trying to stall.

Benson is pressed up against the cage. Ryan has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Benson down to the mat. Benson avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Ryan leaves Benson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Ryan throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Ryan uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Benson.
Ryan stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ryan wants it to stay on the feet.

Ryan closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Benson to the mat! Benson manages to get full guard.
Benson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ryan is controlling him.
Ryan wants to pass the guard but Benson is keeping the position.
Benson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ryan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Benson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Ryan is trying to control the position but Benson postures up.

Ryan utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Ryan isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Benson stacks Ryan on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Benson!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ryan can do anything to dispel that myth.

Ryan feints and as Benson raises his hands in defense, Ryan changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Jackson Ryan is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Benson can't keep his opponent in guard - Ryan advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

I've got Ryan winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
