Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 89 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kiwi Bird!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Durvalino Gomes!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Edson Gomes and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gomes smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

Gomes closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Bird did well to prevent Gomes getting side control.
Bird might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Gomes throwing shots but Bird is blocking nicely.
Bird wants to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gomes is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Gomes has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Gomes postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Bird to stand up.

Gomes darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gomes perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Bird pushes Gomes off looking to stand but Gomes dives back in and keeps control.
Bird is in trouble now - Gomes has advanced to mount!

Bird could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Bird wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Bird is breathing heavily.
Gomes content just to control the position here.

Gomes forces the positional change into back control.

Gomes working for a choke but Bird is defending well.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Bird won't enjoy being in this position. Gomes looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Bird is tapping - it's over boys! Gomes picks up the submission victory!
