PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gustavo Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryoga Hibiki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hibiki comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Blue Orchid kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Ryoga Hibiki was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A nice combination there by Hibiki.
Santos slaps away a takedown attempt from Hibiki, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Hibiki fails with the takedown.
Hibiki tries for a takedown but Santos sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Gustavo Santos has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryoga Hibiki.

and Hibiki counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Santos is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hibiki defends well.

Hibiki trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Santos manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hibiki is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Hibiki really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Santos. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Santos decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Santos closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Hibiki quickly recovers to half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hibiki is refusing to be controlled, as Santos sits in half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Gustavo Santos.

Santos has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Hibiki after a bit of a struggle.

Hibiki is trying to drag Santos to the mat but Santos just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Santos is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Hibiki gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Santos drops down looking for an ankle pick but Hibiki pulls his leg out and moves away.

That was a close round but I would say that Gustavo Santos will probably get the nod.
That's time! Santos's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Hibiki is sitting in close to Santos's body. Santos has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Hibiki is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Hibiki is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Santos.
