PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Busy Signal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leonidas King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Signal comes to the cage accompanied by Busy Signal - Smoke Some High Grade. King has chosen Black Lab-This Night as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Busy Signal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Leonidas King!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Signal shoots in and drives through. King sprawls well.
Signal uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from King.
King misses the shot to the body.
King throws a hook but Signal avoids it easily.
Signal fails with a takedown attempt.
Signal shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has King pinned against the cage. King gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Busy Signal. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Signal throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. King tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Signal is in King's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Signal trying to control the position from guard on top but King is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Signal stopping the sweep attempt from King.
King keeping moving, preventing Signal from controlling successfully.

Busy Signal has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
King throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Signal shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and King counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Jab from King.
The fighters circle momentarily. King darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
King works Signal's body with a nice hook.
King throws a sloppy head kick and Signal moves out of range easily.
Nice shot lands for King.
Signal's hands are dropping dangerously low here and King connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Signal scrambles back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
King is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Signal.
King swinging wildly here.
King paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
King throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Signal doesn't succeed with the takedown
and King cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Signal shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says King as he avoids it easily.
Signal moves out of range as King strikes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Signal throws a lazy uppercut
and King counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
King swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Good exchange - King coming out on top.
Signal takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
King might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Signal tries to score a power double leg takedown but King sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Signal somewhat.
Signal has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from King.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Signal throws a looping overhand right but King ducks down to avoid it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Leonidas King dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


King lands a jab to Signal's midsection.
King scores with a nice strike.
Signal has his takedown stuffed
and King connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
King misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Signal closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. King did well to prevent Signal getting side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Signal perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Signal wants to pass to mount but King is defending the position.

Signal seems to be working for a kimura but King defends the submission attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
King keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Signal is trying to control the action in half guard but King is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Signal is working for a submission of some sort.
Signal misses with a head shot. King uses the momentum to regain guard.
Signal wants to control from the top but King keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Signal's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
King avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Signal slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Signal controls the position from side control.
Signal wants to control but King is keeping him busy.
King wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
King wants to control but Signal postures up.
An elbow from Signal crashes against the mat.
King tries to bench press Signal off him but Signal keeps the position.
Signal advances nicely into full mount.

Signal working for a guillotine from mount but King is in no mood to give up.
Signal looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Signal cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!


King is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Signal controlling from mount.
Signal has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of King's face.
King is still in real trouble! Can Signal finish him?

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Signal can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as King is looking to escape.
King seems to have recovered his senses.
Signal breaks from King's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Signal lands a nice shot to the head.

Signal is going oldschool here, as he tries to force King to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so King shrugs it off.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Signal controlling his opponent.
Signal has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of King's face.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Busy Signal dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Signal drops his hands momentarily and King takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Signal.
King looks to score with a jab to the body but Signal is just out of range.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Signal.
Signal slips a jab and a cross from King.
Signal shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts King as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Busy Signal. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Signal shoots in looking for a takedown. King tries to sprawl out of it but Signal keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. King manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Signal misses with a straight left.
Leonidas King is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Signal shoots for a double leg takedown but King sprawls well. He's pushed Signal's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
King misses with a few strikes there.
King throws a shot to the body.
Signal tries for a takedown but King circles away easily
and King connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
King looks to score with a jab to the body but Signal is just out of range.
Nice defenses there by Signal.
King scores with a one two! Signal had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Busy Signal seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Signal shoots in looking for a takedown but King manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Signal's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Signal showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from King.

Signal looking to score a takedown here. King is defending well but Signal drives through and ends up in King's guard.

Signal drops back looking for a leg! King is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and King manages to kick Signal off! Signal jumps back into King's guard.

King is adopting a defensive guard.
King really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Signal. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Signal trying to control but King is working from the bottom.
Signal pushing down on King's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Signal tries to pass the half guard into mount. King knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

King is defending against the submission attempts here by Signal.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Signal throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing King to regain full guard.
Signal wants to control from the top but King keeps moving.
Signal working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Signal tries to free his leg and advance position but King is retaining full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Signal drops back, looking for a kneebar! King looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. King looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from King!
Signal sneaks back into half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Busy Signal.
I think Signal has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3 rounds of action, we go to the scorecards for a decision.
