PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steven Seagal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lewis has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James Lewis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steven Seagal!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Gwen Towbar and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lewis dodges the punch combination from Seagal.
Lewis is breathing heavily.
Lewis shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Seagal defends it nicely.
Seagal lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Lewis circles away quickly and effectively.
Seagal connects with a body shot that sends Lewis's belly button to the back.
Seagal connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Lewis chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Seagal can pounce on him.
Seagal lands with a nice combination. Lewis backs away looking to recover.
Steven Seagal seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Seagal shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lewis's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Lewis keeping moving, preventing Seagal from controlling successfully.
Seagal throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Lewis works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Seagal wants to control from the top but Lewis keeps moving.
Seagal is looking to stand up but Lewis won't let him.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Steven Seagal was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Seagal darts in and clinches Lewis up against the cage.

Seagal controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Seagal must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Lewis is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Seagal wants to stand but Lewis is controlling his posture from full guard.

Seagal lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Seagal controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Seagal makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Seagal passes Lewis's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Steven Seagal has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Lewis takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Seagal fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Lewis to the ground. Seagal is now in Lewis's guard.

Seagal looking to pass the guard.
Seagal working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Lewis trying to keep a closed guard but Seagal is proving a slippery customer.
Seagal's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Lewis wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Seagal is now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Seagal thows a huge punch but Lewis dodges it nicely.

Seagal looks for the body kick but Lewis saw that one coming.
James Lewis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Lewis gets caught flat footed, as Seagal shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Seagal postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Seagal's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Seagal gets to his feet - Lewis follows without any prompting.

Seagal has closed the distance and engaged Lewis in a clinch.

Seagal throws a right and a left that Lewis avoids nicely.
Seagal swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Seagal throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Lewis.

Lewis takes a shot to the head.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Seagal creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Lewis is looking for a takedown.
Seagal works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Seagal wants the takedown. Lewis is fighting it off but Seagal persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Lewis's guard against the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Lewis looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Seagal pushing down on Lewis's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Seagal seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Lewis does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Seagal wants to free his trapped foot but Lewis is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Seagal tries to pass the half guard into mount. Lewis knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Seagal wants to advance to full mount but Lewis doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

Seagal has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Lewis wants to improve his position but Seagal is controlling well.

Seagal slips a nice elbow through Lewis's hands, connecting with Lewis's forehead.
Lewis on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Lewis keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Seagal seems to be looking for submissions.
Still in half guard, Seagal seems content to control.

Seagal is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Lewis doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Seagal.

Steven Seagal showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Lewis is defended easily by Seagal.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Seagal.
Lewis moves out of range of the body kick.
Lewis on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Seagal fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Lewis is out of range.
Seagal throws a leg kick which misses Lewis's front leg but catches the back leg as Lewis tries to avoid it.

Seagal shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Lewis napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Seagal has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Seagal misses with a jab, cross combination.

Seagal is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Lewis is just riding it out for now. Seagal eventually gives up the hold.

Seagal decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Seagal darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

Seagal leaves Lewis with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Seagal gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Lewis jumps guard but Seagal turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Lewis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Lewis.
Seagal content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Seagal is trying to push Lewis away but Lewis has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Seagal scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Seagal throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Lewis tries to keep at a distance but Seagal has taken the fight into the clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

James Lewis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Seagal lands a knee to the head.

Steven Seagal comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Seagal has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
