PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sam Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johny Cage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cage has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Johny Cage enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sam Hughes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Johny Cage!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hughes shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hughes showed some decent athleticism there.
Cage looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Hughes lands strikes from half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Hughes in particular looking to stall.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hughes postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Cage to stand up.
Cage misses with a wild combination.

Hughes shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Hughes was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Hughes stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Hughes feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Hughes wants to pass the guard but Cage is keeping the position.

Cage is working an open guard so Hughes takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Hughes throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.


That has opened up Johny Cage's cut even more.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

and Hughes counters with a shoot takedown. Cage fights it but they end up in guard.
Hughes won't allow Cage to get back to his feet.

Hughes scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Cage tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Hughes closes the distance and clinches up with Cage, looking for a takedown. Hughes pushes Cage against the cage but Cage circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Hughes wants to slow Cage down by chopping away at his legs.
Johny Cage seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cage gets caught flat footed, as Hughes shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cage is on top in guard.
Hughes is pulling down on Cage's head. It's preventing any offense from Cage, at least for the moment.
Cage won't allow Hughes to get back to his feet.

Cage tries a head kick but it misses.
Cage takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Hughes tests Cage's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Hughes fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Cage sprawls well initially but Hughes persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Hughes is taking a breather. Cage says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Sam Hughes overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hughes wants to control but Cage is keeping him busy.
