PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Graham Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johny Cage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cage has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Johny Cage looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Graham Brown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Johny Cage!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Brown shoots in and bounces Cage off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Cage looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Brown postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Brown gets to his feet. Cage looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Brown connects with a solid leg kick.

Brown shoots in and bounces Cage off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Brown stands up and waves to Cage to follow him.
Cage connects with a high kick.

Cage gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Brown cracks Cage with a solid left hand.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Brown keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Cage's head.
Brown wants to pass the guard but Cage is keeping the position.
Cage is looking to stand up but Brown isn't so interested in that idea.

Brown trying to control the position from guard on top but Cage is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Brown decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Brown throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Cage.
Brown throws a head kick but Cage moves out of range.

Brown closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Brown escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
The fight stays on the outside here - Brown looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Brown lands with an overhand left.

Brown gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Brown gets underhooks to prevent Cage's takedown attempt.

Brown turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Brown manages to end up in side control.
Brown wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cage keeps working.

Cage throws Brown to one side and escapes!
Cage avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cage tries to clinch but Brown moves out of range.
Cage dodges the punch combination from Brown.
Brown throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Cage gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Brown throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Cage keeping moving, preventing Brown from controlling successfully.
Brown sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Cage's guard.

Brown seems to be working for a kimura but Cage defends the submission attempt.
Brown is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Brown prevents Cage from improving his position.
Brown wants to take a breather but Cage is having none of it.

Brown is trying to work for a kimura but Cage is defending well.
Cage is staying active underneath Brown, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Cage gets full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Brown trying to control the position from guard on top but Cage is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Cage is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Brown closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Cage to the mat! Cage manages to get full guard.
Brown is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Graham Brown just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

and Brown counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Cage avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Brown.
Brown wants to take a breather but Cage is having none of it.

Brown is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Cage has managed to free his arm - good work.

Brown working the head and body with strikes.
Graham Brown overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Brown is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Cage is just riding it out for now. Brown eventually gives up the hold.

Brown moves nicely into side control.

Cage tries to escape but Brown is in control.
Brown scores with punches from side control.
Brown lands an elbow.
Brown cracks Cage with a big right hand but Cage just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Brown decides to stand up, so the ref orders Cage to his feet.
Brown shoots for a double leg takedown but Cage sprawls well. He's pushed Brown's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Brown closes the distance and clinches.

Brown drags the fight down to the ground.
Brown not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Cage wants to stand but Brown has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Cage throws and elbow that misses. Brown uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Cage's guard. Nice move by Brown!

Cage uses the cage to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Brown drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Brown trying to control the position from guard on top but Cage is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Brown postures up and lands a big shot to Cage's brow.
Brown slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Brown decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Brown lands with a nice combination. Cage backs away looking to recover.
Brown misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Cage takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Brown rushes Cage and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Cage on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Brown keeps control of Cage as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Brown drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Brown tries to stall but Cage uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Cage is trying to stall.

Brown lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Brown perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Brown drops an elbow to the side of Cage's head.
Brown wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cage keeps working.

Brown stands up out of the half guard.
Cage throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Brown shoots in and drives through. Cage sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Graham Brown. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cage keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Cage blocks the body kick.
Johny Cage has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Brown lands a jab-cross combination.


That has opened up Johny Cage's cut even more.
Cage takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.

Brown gets a clinch.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Brown takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Brown landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Brown tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Brown has Cage pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Brown pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Cage tumbling to the mat - Brown dives into Cage's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Brown postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Brown gets to his feet - Cage follows without any prompting.

Brown looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Cage!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Brown looking to finish Cage with some ground and pound. This is bad for Cage!
Brown tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Brown trying to control but he's not successful this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Brown is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Cage has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Brown tries to control but Cage wriggling away.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Brown postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Cage looks a forlorn figure.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well Brown has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
