Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mark Rebel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dan Gaffney!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Joseph Jones and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rebel closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Rebel lands in his opponent's guard.
Rebel with a flurry of punches that miss.
Rebel throws a strike but Gaffney rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Rebel is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gaffney defends well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rebel looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Rebel has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Gaffney got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rebel has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gaffney has managed to get both his arms back between Rebel's legs - danger averted.

Gaffney won't allow Rebel to sweep him here.
Rebel tries to strike from the bottom.
Rebel working a defensive guard but Gaffney manages to pass into side control anyway.

Gaffney really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rebel. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Rebel tries to bench press Gaffney off him but Gaffney keeps the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rebel can't do much from the bottom here.
Rebel throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.

Gaffney working away.
Rebel sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Rebel is trying to control but can't.
Rebel is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Gaffney postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Rebel to stand up.
Rebel tries for a takedown but Gaffney circles away easily
and Gaffney counters with a lovely straight right hand!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rebel misses with a takedown attempt
and Gaffney counters with a stiff right hand.


It looks like Mark Rebel has been cut.

and Gaffney counters with a one-two to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Rebel. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rebel has his takedown stuffed
and Gaffney counters with a leg kick.
Gaffney throws a hook to the side of Rebel's head but Rebel sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

and Gaffney connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rebel shoots and misses
and Gaffney cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

and Gaffney connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Rebel fails with the takedown
and Gaffney counters with a stiff right hand.
Rebel gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
letting Gaffney counter with a right hand.
Rebel doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Gaffney counters with a big right hand! Oh Rebel is in trouble here! Gaffney follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dan Gaffney!
During a confident post fight interview, Dan Gaffney thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
