Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bryan Bishop!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 18 - 2, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Simons III!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Thiago Cunha and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Simons III fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Bishop shoots in looking for a takedown. Simons III tries to sprawl out of it but Bishop keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Simons III manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Bishop shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Simons III sprawls well. Simons III wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Bishop gets slowly back to his feet.
Simons III finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Bishop winds up and cracks Simons III with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Simons III tries to get to full guard but Bishop has control of the leg.
Bishop looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Simons III with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Simons III is not content to let Bishop control the position.
Bishop is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Bishop is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Simons III is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Bishop pulls his head out easily.
Simons III tries to roll over but Bishop keeps him under control.

Simons III moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Bishop is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bishop has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Bishop keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Simons III's head.
Bishop knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Simons III on the ground.
Simons III manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Bishop manages to get himself to full guard.

Simons III is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Bishop is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Bishop has escaped and now he's on top!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bishop wants to pass the guard but Simons III is keeping the position.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Simons III is on top in guard.
Bishop wants to stand up but Simons III is controlling him.
Simons III wants to pass the guard but Bishop is keeping the position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Simons III accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Simons III is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Simons III passes Bishop's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Simons III wants to pass the guard but Bishop is defending well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Simons III is looking for a kimura but Bishop is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Simons III to get the leverage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but John Simons III will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Simons III fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Bishop sprawls well initially but Simons III persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Simons III is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Bishop has managed to free his arm - good work.

Simons III is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Bishop is staying active underneath Simons III, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Simons III is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Bishop is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). John Simons III!
A relieved looking John Simons III thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
