And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Riviere Hinds!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, George Francis and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hinds tries to land a leg kick but Smith saw it coming and moves away.
Smith takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Smith fails to land with a series of punches.
Hinds throws a shot to the body.
Hinds fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Smith manages to avoid it.
Smith tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hinds swivels and escapes.
Riviere Hinds seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hinds just misses with a punch to the body.
A combination from Smith does no damage.
Hinds takes a swing at Smith's ribcage but misses.
Hinds swings for the body but Smith moves out of range.
Hinds throws an off balance right hand

and Smith counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Hinds!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Smith thowing shots but they're missing.
Smith looking to control and managing it successfully.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hinds is working to get back to half guard.
Smith will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Hinds tries to lock up and control but Smith gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Hinds is looking to get to half guard.
Hinds avoids a series of strikes thrown by Smith.

Hinds wants to improve his position but Smith is controlling well.
Smith looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hinds with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Smith is looking to take a break and control but Hinds is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hinds can do anything to dispel that myth.

Hinds wants to control but Smith is keeping busy.

Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Smith prevents Hinds from improving his position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Smith is controlling the pace.
Smith passes the guard and advances to mount!
Hinds really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Smith really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Smith cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Smith throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Hinds has his hands clasped together but Smith breaks the hold and Hinds is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Smith!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Aj Smith!
