PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Oscar Torres (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leonid Kirgiakos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Oscar Torres!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Leonid Kirgiakos!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, John Mangel and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Torres misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Torres throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Torres moves forwards but Kirgiakos connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Kirgiakos takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Kirgiakos swinging wildly here.
Torres ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Kirgiakos misses with a body shot
and Torres counters with a leg kick.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Torres swats away the attempt to clinch by Kirgiakos.
Kirgiakos jabbing away but nothing is landing.
A nice leg kick lands there from Torres.
Torres looks to score with a jab to the body but Kirgiakos is just out of range.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Torres lands with a slapping head kick.


It looks like Leonid Kirgiakos has been cut.
Torres fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kirgiakos avoids it really well and circles away.
Torres misses with a wild body shot.
Torres shoots in for a takedown but Kirgiakos shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Kirgiakos thumps Torres with a low kick.
Kirgiakos lands a slapping body shot.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Torres throws out a loose jab but Kirgiakos uses good head movement to avoid it.
Kirgiakos looks to score with a jab to the body but Torres is just out of range.
Kirgiakos misses with a left hand
and Torres counters with a lovely shot to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Torres throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kirgiakos looks to clinch
and Torres counters with a good low kick that Kirgiakos was not able to check.
Kirgiakos lands with a cross.
Torres tries a low kick but Kirgiakos avoids it.
Torres slips a straight right by Kirgiakos.
Kirgiakos throws a nice looking combination but Torres bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
The fighters circling - Kirgiakos throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Torres throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Torres throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Torres closes the distance and clinches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Torres escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Torres feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Torres stays in close to Kirgiakos's body and controls the position.
Kirgiakos keeping moving, preventing Torres from controlling successfully.
Kirgiakos controls Torres momentarily but Torres frees himself.
Torres won't allow Kirgiakos to sweep him here.
Kirgiakos really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Torres. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kirgiakos keeping moving, preventing Torres from controlling successfully.
Kirgiakos has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Oscar Torres has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Torres fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Oscar Torres. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Torres slips a jab from Kirgiakos.
Kirgiakos throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Torres thows a body shot but no joy.
Nice uppercut there from Kirgiakos.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kirgiakos fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Torres manages to avoid it.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Kirgiakos avoids the head kick by Torres.
Kirgiakos displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Torres.
An inside leg kick lands from Torres.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Oscar Torres will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Leonid Kirgiakos's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Torres clinches up with Kirgiakos and pushes him back against the cage.

Torres manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kirgiakos trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Kirgiakos must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Torres looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Kirgiakos trying to control but Torres is working from the bottom.

Torres is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kirgiakos defends well.

Kirgiakos is sitting in close to Torres's body. Torres has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Kirgiakos is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Kirgiakos is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Torres.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Oscar Torres!
Oscar Torres bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
