PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between David Navara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Takeya Akazumi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Navara comes to the cage accompanied by City Is Mine by Drake. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, David Navara!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Takeya Akazumi!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Shigeki Fujiwara and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Navara throws a head kick that misses.
Akazumi misses with a takedown attempt - Navara sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
David Navara seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Navara scores with a head kick. Akazumi tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Navara throws a push kick but Akazumi slaps the foot to one side.
Akazumi avoids the head kick by Navara.
Navara paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

and Akazumi decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Navara's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Akazumi accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Navara knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Akazumi on the ground.
Akazumi wants to pass the guard but Navara is keeping the position.
Akazumi passes Navara's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Akazumi is working for a kimura but Navara is defending it quite comfortably.

Akazumi is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Navara doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Akazumi.
Navara wants to get back to his feet.

Akazumi seems to be working for a kimura but Navara defends the submission attempt.

Akazumi is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Navara has managed to free his arm - good work.

Akazumi is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Navara defends it well.

Akazumi is looking for a kimura but Navara is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Akazumi to get the leverage.

Akazumi wants to work for an arm triangle but Navara is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Akazumi is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Navara is staying active underneath Akazumi, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Akazumi is defended easily by Navara.
Navara lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Akazumi backs up against the cage.


It looks like Takeya Akazumi has been cut.
Navara throws a sloppy head kick

and Akazumi decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Navara's guard.
Navara keeping moving, preventing Akazumi from controlling successfully.

Navara pushes Akazumi off and scrambles back to his feet.
David Navara is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Navara cracks Akazumi with an open hand slap.
Akazumi closes this distance looking for a takedown but Navara circles away.
Akazumi shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Navara but Navara pushes him off and we're back to square one.
David Navara has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Takeya Akazumi.

Akazumi throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Navara was covering up waiting for the punch and Akazumi finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Navara wants to stand and escape but Akazumi is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Navara trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Akazumi is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Takeya Akazumi was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Navara throws a sloppy head kick

and Akazumi counters with a nice double leg into side control. Navara won't be happy with that.
Navara wants to get back to his feet but Akazumi is dominant here and he's now got Navara's back!

Akazumi has got one arm under Navara's chin. This could be trouble... Navara trying to control the other hand but Akazumi gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Navara has tapped out! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Takeya Akazumi!
After the big win, Takeya Akazumi made sure to do all the important stuff like thanking his sponsors Hell's Balls Recovery (160) and telling the interviewer how much he loves him.
