Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boner slips a jab from Russel.

Boner shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Russel really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Russel sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Russel is controlling Boner's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Boner is trying to work for a kimura but Russel is defending well.
Boner missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Russel has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Boner is working away from the top position though.
Russel holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Boner seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Russel does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Boner is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Russel is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Russel wants to improve his position but Boner is controlling well.

Boner throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Russel to regain full guard.
Russel wants to sweep but no luck.
Russel is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Boner on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Boner tries to get out of the position.
Boner makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Boner.
Russel wants to control from the top but Boner keeps moving.
Boner tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Boner knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Russel on the ground.
Russel connects with a couple of short punches.
Russel loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Boner throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Russel wants to control from the top but Boner keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This has been an exciting period of action!

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ben Russel was stalling too much, according to the referee.

and Russel counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Russel lands a nice short elbow.

Boner is not content to let Russel control the position.

Russel is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Russel gets to his feet and stands over Boner, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Boner felt that one! Russel unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Boner from any more punishment!
