PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jesse James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walker has chosen The Doors - Peace Frog as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jesse James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 29 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jack Walker!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Tarja Halkonen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Walker slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Walker thows a body shot but no joy.
Walker moves into range and connects with a jab.
James is looking to clinch.
James loads up on a big right hand but Walker slips the punch.
James moves out of range of the body kick from Walker.
James misses with an uppercut

so Walker counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Walker trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Walker throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as James works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Walker trying to control but James is working from the bottom.
Walker stops James from standing up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Walker trying to control the position from guard on top but James is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Walker has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
James is trying to control the position from the bottom.

We're going to have a standup here because Jesse James wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
James misses with a body shot
and Walker counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Jesse James is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Walker misses with a two punch combination.

and Walker counters with a nice body shot.

Walker misses with a double jab
and James counters with a nice uppercut.
James misses with a wild body shot.
Walker moves into range and connects with a jab.
James tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in the close the distance. Walker manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Walker swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Walker throws a leg kick
and James counters with a low kick, right behind Walker 's knee.
James misses with an uppercut. Walker saw that one coming.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Walker connects with a leg kick. James looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

James keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Walker.
James stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and James wants it to stay on the feet.
James clobbers Walker with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
James with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Walker to score with a decent uppercut.
James paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Walker fails to land the takedown.
James throws an overhand right that lands on Walker's shoulder, as Walker tries to avoid the shot.

Walker looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
James is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Walker's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Walker's back!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Walker rolls, trying to escape but James keeps control of the position.
Walker trying to control the hands but James won't let him.
James punishes Walker with strikes from the back mount.
Walker trying to control the hands but James breaks the grip.
James controls the action.
James is trying to stick to Walker's back but Walker is turning into James. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in James's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Walker.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
James not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
James keeping moving, preventing Walker from controlling successfully.
James is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jack Walker will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


The crowd cheers as James lands an impressive looking overhand right. Walker doesn't seem phased though.
James displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Walker.

James rushes Walker and presses him up against the ropes.
Walker tries for a takedown. No joy.
Walker makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Walker tries to score a body lock takedown but James shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Jesse James has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Walker.
James misses with a punch to the body.

Walker pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Walker misses with a takedown attempt - James sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

James moves into range and clinches up with Walker.

James fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Walker misses with a punch to the body.
A quick uppercut on the inside from James.

Walker lands a takedown into guard.
Walker wants to control from the top but James keeps moving.
James preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Walker trying to control but James is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

James has his feet on Walker's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Walker shoots in looking for a takedown but James manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Walker's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Walker's jab looks to have found its range, popping James under the eye.

James cracks Walker with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Walker looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can James finish him?


Walker is rocked!


It looks like Jack Walker has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
James throws a low kick but it's checked well by Walker.
Walker is still on wobbly legs! Can James finish him?
James wants to land a leg kick but Walker is out of range.
Walker seems to have recovered his senses.
James lands with a nice body punch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
James cracks Walker with a right hand to the side of the head.
James throws a hook to the side of Walker's head but Walker sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

James has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Walker.
Walker shoots for a double leg takedown but James sprawls well. He's pushed Walker's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
James gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Walker thows a body shot but no joy.
Walker scores with a head kick.

James takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
James tries to close the distance and clinch but Walker swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Walker moves into range and connects with a jab.
Walker misses with a kick to the body.
Walker keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
A right-left combo lands from Walker.
Jesse James is winning the standup battle so far.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Walker misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Walker bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
James throws a hook but Walker avoids it easily.
James throws a head kick that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jesse James dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Jack Walker's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


James does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Walker looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Walker lands with a hook. James tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
James scores with a jab. Walker acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
James misses with an uppercut.
James walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
James slips under a jab from Walker.
James moves out of range of the strikes.
Walker takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Walker scores a takedown into full mount!
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Walker working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Walker wants to control but instead James manages to regain half guard.
James wants to get back to his feet.
James taking some punishment here, with Walker in his half guard.
Walker wants to free his trapped foot but James is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Well, if Walker is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

James looks like he's trying to stand up.
Walker trying to control the action but James is working from the bottom.
Walker thows a huge punch but James dodges it nicely.
James wants to get back to full guard.
James holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

James trying to control but Walker postures up.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
James moves into full guard.
Walker trying to control the position from guard on top but James is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Walker stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from James.
Walker has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
James's corner calls for a 1-2. James obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Sloppy strikes from Walker. Those never looked like landing.
James lands a nice leg kick that just misses Walker's sensitive parts.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Horrible takedown by Walker or perhaps it was just good defense by James which made him look bad.
Walker doesn't succeed with the takedown
and James connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Walker takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Walker shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as James sprawls well. James wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Walker gets slowly back to his feet.
Jesse James has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Walker.
James swings away with a leg kick that misses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Walker swats away the attempt to clinch by James.
Walker avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jesse James.
I think James has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
