PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Rambo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diaz has chosen Dani California as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Rambo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nick Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Rambo.

Rambo shoots in and bounces Diaz off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Rambo wants to control from the top but Diaz keeps moving.
Rambo prevents Diaz from getting back to his feet.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Rambo is in close to Diaz's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Rambo won't allow Diaz to get back to his feet.

Rambo is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Rambo stops Diaz from standing up.
Rambo trying to control but Diaz is working from the bottom.
Rambo lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Rambo lands a couple of digs.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Diaz is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Rambo lands a couple of elbows.
Rambo is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Rambo drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rambo jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Rambo connects with a couple of short punches.

Rambo gets to his feet. Diaz looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Diaz connects with a right hand. Rambo shakes it off.


It looks like John Rambo has been cut.
Diaz swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Rambo decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Diaz's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Diaz wants to stand and escape but Rambo is having none of it.

Rambo thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rambo lands a couple of digs.
Rambo postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Rambo makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Rambo engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Diaz has momentary wrist control but Rambo slips an elbow through the middle.
Rambo controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Rambo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Rambo closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Diaz quickly recovers to half guard.

Diaz throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Rambo might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Diaz is working an open guard so Rambo takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Nick Diaz is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Diaz misses with a body shot.
Diaz jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Diaz misses with a wild body shot.
Diaz jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.

Rambo fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Diaz sprawls well initially but Rambo persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rambo in particular looking to stall.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Diaz throws a right and a left that Rambo avoids nicely.

Rambo feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Diaz wants to stand up but Rambo is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rambo wants to control from the top but Diaz keeps moving.
Rambo is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Diaz can do to turn this around?

Rambo tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Diaz just stands there and leans against the cage.

Rambo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Diaz defends well.

Rambo scrambles and gets back to his feet.
A looping hook to the body misses from Diaz. Rambo does a little dance to reset his feet.
Rambo avoids a punch combination nicely.
Diaz is breathing heavily.
Diaz ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Rambo moves away.
The fighters circling - Diaz throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

and Rambo counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Diaz's guard now.

Rambo stands up over Diaz, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Diaz is looking to stand up but Rambo isn't so interested in that idea.

Rambo gets to his feet. Diaz looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Nick Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Rambo is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Diaz's half guard.

Rambo stands up out of the half guard.

Diaz gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Rambo thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Diaz really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rambo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Rambo wants the takedown. Diaz is fighting it off but Rambo persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Diaz's guard against the cage.
Rambo seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Rambo winds up and cracks Diaz with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Rambo frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Rambo is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Diaz is surviving well by controlling Rambo's body position as best he can.
Diaz's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Diaz is bucking up trying to escape but Rambo cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Rambo cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
John Rambo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Diaz is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Rambo has taken his back!
Rambo is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Rambo working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Diaz is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Rambo has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Diaz taps out!
