PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Michail Shozintski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ronald McDonald (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shozintski kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Fire. McDonald is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by How do ya like me now?. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Michail Shozintski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ronald McDonald!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Illya Tyunina and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shozintski throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

McDonald closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Shozintski to the mat! Shozintski manages to get full guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
McDonald controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
McDonald pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Shozintski is keeping the position for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Ronald McDonald.

With the fighters up against the cage, Shozintski throws an elbow but misses.
Shozintski misses with a knee to the head.

Shozintski has clasped his hands together around McDonald's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

McDonald is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Shozintski has just dragged him back down to the mat.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
McDonald parries the strikes from Shozintski easily there. Shozintski is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable McDonald to escape.
You can see the frustration on McDonald's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Shozintski wants to stand but McDonald is controlling his arm.
McDonald is not content to let Shozintski control the position.
McDonald manages to work his way to half guard, despite Shozintski's best efforts.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Shozintski thows a huge punch but McDonald dodges it nicely.

McDonald is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
McDonald drops down looking for an ankle pick but Shozintski pulls his leg out and moves away.

Shozintski instigates a clinch.

Shozintski turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Shozintski manages to end up in side control.
Shozintski is trying to ground and pound but McDonald uses the momentary lack of control by Shozintski to regain half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
McDonald keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
McDonald is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Shozintski's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Shozintski's back!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Shozintski gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows McDonald to score an easy takedown into full guard.

McDonald controls from within his opponent's guard.
McDonald stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shozintski swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Shozintski knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for McDonald on the ground.
Shozintski wants to stand and escape but McDonald is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McDonald controlling from the top position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
No joy there for Shozintski, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Shozintski misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from McDonald.
McDonald shoots for a takedown but Shozintski saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from McDonald.

Shozintski has taken the fight to the clinch.

Shozintski manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
McDonald pushing down on Shozintski's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
McDonald takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

McDonald is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Shozintski is just riding it out for now. McDonald eventually gives up the hold.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

McDonald seems to be looking for submissions.
Shozintski looks like he's trying to stand up.
Ronald McDonald has got the better of the ground game so far.
Shozintski is looking to improve his position.

McDonald passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Shozintski!
McDonald takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

McDonald has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Shozintski is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ronald McDonald!
In his post fight interview, Ronald McDonald started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
