Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Kennedy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alex James!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Skip Squint and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice defenses there by James.
A decent looking cross lands there for Kennedy.
Kennedy tries to clinch up but James circles away and keeps his distance.
Kennedy throws a hook but James avoids it easily.
Kennedy misses with a body kick.
Kennedy throws a body kick that misses.
Kennedy connects with an inside leg kick.
John Kennedy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
James shoots for a takedown but Kennedy saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
The fighters circling - Kennedy throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Kennedy throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Kennedy is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

James avoids the body shot from Kennedy.
Nice shot lands for Kennedy.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from James is defended easily by Kennedy.
Kennedy throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Kennedy jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Kennedy fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with James, pushing him back against the cage.
James takes an elbow to the forehead.


It looks like Alex James has been cut.

Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Kennedy pushes off an throws an elbow but James leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Kennedy obliges.
Kennedy utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.
James is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Kennedy pulls him back up using the underhooks.
John Kennedy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alex James.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kennedy is pressed up against the cage. James has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Kennedy down to the mat. Kennedy avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Kennedy just misses with a punch to the body.

Kennedy lands a nice leg kick that just misses James's sensitive parts.
James steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Kennedy. That one must have hurt.
Kennedy throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Kennedy fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and James has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
James misses with a combination
and Kennedy counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. James is lucky that one didn't land flush.

James on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Kennedy keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Kennedy lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
James is trying desperately to land a takedown but Kennedy is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for James.

James tries to keep at a distance but Kennedy has taken the fight into the clinch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kennedy throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but James blocks it with crossed arms.
James tries for a takedown but Kennedy manages to get underhooks.
Kennedy lands a nice elbow from the clinch.

James drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Kennedy lands an elbow that stopped James in his tracks for a moment.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Kennedy dominated that round.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Kennedy throws a leg kick which misses James's front leg but catches the back leg as James tries to avoid it.
James blocks the body kick.
Kennedy misses with a wild body shot.
A thudding body kick lands there by Kennedy!
John Kennedy is winning the standup battle so far.
Kennedy tries a head kick but it misses.
Kennedy misses with a right hand
and James counters with a series of strikes. Kennedy will be more careful next time no doubt.
Kennedy chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Jab, jab by Kennedy - just one landing.
Kennedy looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

James feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

James lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Kennedy looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

James has gone for a leg lock! Kennedy slips out almost immediately though and dives into James's guard.
James wants to stand and escape but Kennedy is having none of it.
James has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

James pushes Kennedy off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Kennedy looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

Kennedy swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and James counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Kennedy!
James landing strikes from the mount and Kennedy is in trouble!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kennedy tries to hold on but James pushes him away.
Kennedy tries to reverse the position but James maintains control.
James breaks from Kennedy's wrist control and lands an elbow.
James throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Kennedy because James loaded up on that one.
James thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
BOOM! James connects with a massive shot to the dome!

James lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
James throwing strikes here but Kennedy is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

James has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Kennedy's face.

Alex James showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Kennedy's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Kennedy moves forwards but James connects with a nice, crisp jab.

James takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Kennedy defends well against a solid takedown attempt from James.

Kennedy connects with an inside leg kick.
Kennedy throws a push kick but James slaps the foot to one side.

Kennedy tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but James paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Nice body punch from Kennedy.

Kennedy lands with a hook. James tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Kennedy throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent James stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
James's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
James shoots in looking for a takedown but Kennedy manages to keep the fight standing, pushing James's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Kennedy has closed the distance and engaged James in a clinch.
James drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kennedy pulls his leg out and moves away.
John Kennedy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alex James.
James takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Kennedy tries a low kick but James avoids it.
John Kennedy is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kennedy lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Kennedy wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

James is trying to drag Kennedy to the mat but Kennedy just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
