PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Joseph Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adam Baxter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Williams's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, River Below by Billy Talent. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joseph Williams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Adam Baxter!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Stewart Dunkirk and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Williams keeps the fight on the outside.
Williams keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Baxter throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Williams's waist but Williams gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Baxter off to one side.
Baxter is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Baxter shoots in for a takedown but Williams shows good takedown defense.
Joseph Williams has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Adam Baxter.

Williams scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Baxter really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Williams. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Williams wants to take Baxter's back here but Baxter is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Williams takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Joseph Williams just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Williams looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Williams takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Still in half guard, Williams seems content to control.
Williams is breathing heavily.
Baxter wants to improve his position but Williams is controlling well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Williams seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Williams is tying to control. Baxter wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Baxter is trying to control but can't.

Williams wants to control but Baxter is keeping him busy.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Williams shoots in but Baxter avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Williams shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Baxter as he jumps to the side.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Baxter shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Williams decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Baxter's guard.

Let's hope that Baxter has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Williams wants to sweep here but Baxter controlling him for the moment.

Baxter drops back looking for a leg! Williams is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Williams manages to kick Baxter off! Baxter jumps back into Williams's guard.
Baxter is fighting to break Williams's control of his arms but Williams is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Williams is on top in guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Williams's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Williams fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Williams swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Baxter wants to clinch.

Williams feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Baxter pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Williams regains half guard.
Williams is controlling Baxter's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Williams pulls Baxter in close to his closed guard and prevents Baxter from doing any damage or advancing position.

Joseph Williams overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Williams wants to hit a switch here but Baxter passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Williams there!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Williams wants to control but Baxter is having none of it.

Williams is looking to get to half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Williams tries to control the position but Baxter now has his back.
Williams is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Adam Baxter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
