PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Douglas Santana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Santana comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Duke NukemTheme kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Elvis Blanc and Ian Loll.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santana lands a right hook to the body.

Santana misses with a few strikes there.

Santana gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Santana wants to sweep but no luck.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gracie seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Santana looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Gracie has picked Santana up and slammed him! Santana can't keep hold of the triangle and Gracie manages to pass to side control!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Santana tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gracie wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Gracie is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Santana is just riding it out for now. Gracie eventually gives up the hold.

Santana wants to control but Gracie is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Still in half guard, Gracie seems content to control.
Gracie is nestled in close to Santana, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Gracie seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Santana does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Santana is looking for a sweep. Gracie is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That was a close round but I would say that Ryan Gracie will probably get the nod.

Gracie walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Santana's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Gracie connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Santana scrambles back to his feet.

Santana shoots in for a double leg but Gracie sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Santana fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Gracie manages to avoid it.
Santana fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Santana shoots in looking for a takedown. Gracie tries to sprawl out of it but Santana keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gracie manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Santana shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
