Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kevin Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gustavo Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Saam Ante and Wagner Zegers.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendes will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Mendes bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Smith seems a little lost for a moment, as Mendes dominates the positioning.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Gustavo Mendes hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Smith throws a jab when Mendes was well out of range.

Mendes remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Mendes decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Mendes shoots for a double leg takedown but Smith sprawls well. He's pushed Mendes's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Smith thuds his right hand into Mendes's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Smith throws the left hand but Mendes avoids the punch easily.
Smith slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Smith could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Smith fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Smith stalks Mendes and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Mendes's face. Mendes staggers backwards, shaken.
The fighters circle momentarily. Smith darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Mendes takes the fight into the clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mendes drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Smith misses with a short punch on the inside.
Mendes lands a body punch in the clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Smith swings for the body but Mendes moves out of range.
Mendes takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Mendes's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Smith connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Mendes scrambles back to his feet.

Mendes looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mendes works his way into side control.
Mendes content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Mendes stands up and beckons Smith to his feet.

Mendes has managed to clinch.

Mendes shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Smith but Smith pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Smith paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Smith cracks Mendes with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

That was a close second round but I would say that Kevin Smith will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!
Mendes shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Mendes tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Mendes is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Smith is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

Mendes looking to break Smith's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Smith remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Mendes will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Mendes lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
