PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sean Sherk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dick Burns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Burns has chosen The Ballad of John and Yoko as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Sean Sherk has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sean Sherk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dick Burns!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Alec Ball and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sherk darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Sherk is trying to control the action in half guard but Burns is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Burns looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sherk wants to control but Burns is keeping him busy.
Sherk with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Burns is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Burns is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Sherk pulls his head out easily.

Burns keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Sherk seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Burns moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Burns has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Sherk is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Burns.

That was a close round but I would say that Sean Sherk will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Sherk stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Burns swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Burns wants to sweep here but Sherk controlling him for the moment.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Sherk's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Sherk got a little sloppy there for a moment and Burns has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sherk has managed to get both his arms back between Burns's legs - danger averted.

Burns has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Sherk has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Sean Sherk is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Sherk is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Burns gets his way!
Burns takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Dick Burns has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
