Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nate Cruz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ricky Sparks!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Ren Mimura and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sparks tries for a takedown but Cruz sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Cruz takes the fight into the clinch.
Cruz is pushing Sparks up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Cruz is pressed up against the cage. Sparks has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Cruz down to the mat. Cruz avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Cruz has his takedown stuffed

and Sparks counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Sparks.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Cruz is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Sparks is aware though and is defending well.

Cruz striking off his back but it's not causing Sparks any problems.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sparks is looking to work some ground and pound but Cruz has wrist control.

Cruz escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sparks gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Cruz is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Sparks is aware though and is defending well.

Cruz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sparks doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sparks manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Sparks must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Cruz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sparks defends it easily.

Cruz has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sparks can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Sparks lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Sparks.

Cruz drives through and clinches with Sparks against the cage.

Sparks drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Cruz wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Sparks has him pressed against the cage.

Sparks defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Cruz.

Sparks really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cruz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Sparks got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cruz has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sparks has managed to get both his arms back between Cruz's legs - danger averted.

Cruz tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Cruz has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Sparks is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Cruz.

Sparks takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

I would just about give that final round to Ricky Sparks.
