The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Steve Erwin and Skip Squint.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rootbeer clinches up against the cage.
Rootbeer is trying to break the clinch but Markus has him pressed against the cage.
Rootbeer throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Markus on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Markus gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Rootbeer regains guard.
Rootbeer looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Markus puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Rootbeer is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Markus pulls his head out easily.
Markus is tying to control. Rootbeer wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Markus shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rootbeer as he avoids it easily.

Markus shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rootbeer's guard.

Mark Markus overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Rootbeer has control of Markus's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Markus regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Rootbeer wants to finish this one by submission but Markus is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Rootbeer.

Rootbeer swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Markus is now in Rootbeer's guard. A big mistake from Rootbeer there, giving up the dominant position!

Rootbeer escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Markus gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Markus is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

A W Rootbeer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Markus is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Rootbeer defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Markus is stalling here. Rootbeer is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Markus seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Rootbeer has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Well Rootbeer has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
