PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bruce Strider (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Harrison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Harrison has chosen park up pussy as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Harrison has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bruce Strider!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, James Harrison!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Edson Gomes and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harrison with a poor takedown

and Strider counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Harrison's guard now.
Harrison looks gassed!
Strider trying to stand up but can't free himself from Harrison's guard.
Strider loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Harrison working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Strider doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Strider manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Strider accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Strider wants to pass the guard but Harrison is keeping the position.
Harrison throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Harrison keeping moving, preventing Strider from controlling successfully.
Strider slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Strider trying to control the position from guard on top but Harrison is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Bruce Strider wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Strider fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Harrison sprawls well initially but Strider persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Strider thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Harrison's head.
Strider has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Harrison is looking to improve his position.
Harrison keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Strider is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Harrison is trying to stand.
Strider wants to control but Harrison is keeping him busy.

Harrison blocking the ground and pound attempt from Strider.

Strider is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Strider is trying to control. Harrison wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Strider is looking for a kimura here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Strider stands up and beckons Harrison to join him on the feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Strider shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Strider was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Harrison working to try and regain half guard.
Harrison wants to hold on but Strider pushes him away.
Harrison is trying to escape the mount.
Strider trying to control but Harrison is having none of it.
Harrison tries to hold on but Strider pushes him away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Strider punching from mount but Harrison doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Harrison holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Strider tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Strider lands a big elbow.
Strider throws some wild stikes that Harrison manages to avoid easily.
Harrison sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Strider controlling the pace.

Strider is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Harrison doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Strider.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Harrison wants to control but Strider is keeping busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bruce Strider dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Strider goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Harrison shoots for a takedown but Strider saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Harrison is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Harrison gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Harrison throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Striders head.

Strider has clasped his hands together around Harrison's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Strider working the ground and pound but Harrison is defending the strikes.
You can see the frustration on Harrison's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Harrison tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Strider is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Harrison is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Harrison is breathing heavily.
Strider creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Harrison sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Strider wants to control but Harrison is keeping him busy.
Harrison is looking to regain half guard here but Strider keeps moving and retains side control.
Strider scores with a couple of short elbows.
Strider tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Strider misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Harrison is looking to reverse the position.
Harrison is not content to let Strider control the position.
Strider is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Strider postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Strider is looking to take a break and control but Harrison is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Harrison bucks up and tries to throw Strider off but instead Strider has got his back!

Harrison is trying to get back to his feet. He's worked up on to his knees and now he's on his feet with his head on the canvas, trying to shake Strider off. It looks like it's working - Strider slides off, much to his dismay, and we're back to standing! Harrison displaying calm under pressure there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Horrible takedown by Strider or perhaps it was just good defense by Harrison which made him look bad.
Harrison stuffs the takedown attempt from Strider. Strider gets slowly back to his feet.
Harrison tries to clinch but Strider moves out of range.
Strider doesn't manage to clinch there - Harrison circles away.
Strider throws a head kick that Harrison semi-blocks.

and Harrison counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bruce Strider. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Strider keeping full guard, as Harrison tries to pass.

Strider throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Strider has his hands on Harrison's head, controlling the position.
Strider wants to stand but Harrison is controlling the position.

Harrison stands up and waves to Strider to follow him.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Harrison shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Strider but Strider pushes him off and we're back to square one.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Bruce Strider will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Strider shoots in but no luck this time.
Strider shoots for a takedown but Harrison saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
A head kick misses from Strider.

Strider closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Strider cracks Harrison with a big elbow.
Strider wants to lay and pray for a moment but Harrison keeps working.
Strider tries to move to mount but Harrison blocks the move with his legs.
Harrison gets back to half guard.
Harrison keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Strider passes the guard and advances to mount!
Harrison is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Strider tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Harrison blocking the ground and pound.
Strider throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Strider unloads with some shots from mount but Harrison bucks and avoids them well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Strider controlling his opponent.
Strider is trying to take his opponent's back.
Strider wants to control the pace but Harrison is squirming around nicely.
Harrison gets back to half guard.
Strider trying to control from half guard but Harrison is working away.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Harrison wants to get back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Strider works his foot free and advances to mount.
Strider can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Harrison is looking to escape.
Strider thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Strider trying to control but Harrison is having none of it.
Bruce Strider overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Strider manages to capitalize on a mistake by Harrison to take his back!
I really don't envy Harrison right now.
Strider is looking to control Harrison but Harrison is wriggling around and keeping busy.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Harrison is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bruce Strider showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Strider, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
