Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Steve Hershey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dj Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hershey's entrance music is Aztechnical. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steve Hershey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dj Nelson!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hershey drives through with a takedown into Nelson's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Nelson throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Hershey trying to control but Nelson is working from the bottom.
Hershey wants to pass the guard but Nelson is keeping the position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hershey accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Nelson looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Hershey throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Hershey postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Nelson has his foot on Hershey's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hershey works his way back into a safe position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nelson wants to stand but Hershey is controlling the position.

Nelson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hershey defends it easily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Nelson working for a triangle but Hershey defends it easily.

Hershey got a little sloppy there for a moment and Nelson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hershey has managed to get both his arms back between Nelson's legs - danger averted.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hershey throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Nelson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Hershey might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Nelson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hershey is one step ahead there.
Nelson has momentary wrist control but Hershey slips an elbow through the middle.
Hershey tries to free his leg and advance position but Nelson is retaining full guard.
Hershey throws a big right hand that misses.
Hershey missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Nelson manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Nelson shoots in for a takedown but Hershey shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Hershey throws a nice looking combination but Nelson bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Nelson closes the distance and clinches up with Hershey, looking for a takedown. Nelson pushes Hershey against the cage but Hershey circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Nelson misses with a takedown attempt

and Hershey counters with a series of strikes that sends Nelson to the canvas! Hershey follows down into guard, looking to finish the fight!


Nelson is rocked!
Steve Hershey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dj Nelson.
Nelson looks gassed!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hershey working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Nelson's head.
Nelson is still in real trouble! Can Hershey finish him?
Hershey loads up on a big left hand. Nelson felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Hershey looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Nelson can't hide his disappointment, as Hershey celebrates the victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Steve Hershey!
A very excited looking Steve Hershey made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
