PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marian Nilski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fedor Emelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Emelianenko has chosen Fort Minor - Remember The Name as his entrance music. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Marian Nilski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Fedor Emelianenko!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Anni Minnemäki and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Emelianenko decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Nilski wants to get back to his feet.
Nilski tries to kick Emelianenko off in order to stand up. Emelianenko Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

Emelianenko wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Nilski, who protects the arm well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Emelianenko in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Nilski is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

It looks like Marian Nilski has been cut.
Nilski knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Emelianenko on the ground.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Nilski tries to escape but Emelianenko is in control.
Nilski is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Emelianenko wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Nilski, who protects the arm well.

Emelianenko is trying to get an arm triangle but Nilski is defending well.

Emelianenko decides to stand up, so the ref orders Nilski to his feet.

Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Nilski throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Emelianenko scores with a punch to the head.
Emelianenko fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Nilski misses with a series of wild punches.

Emelianenko feints and as Nilski raises his hands in defense, Emelianenko changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Emelianenko distracts Nilski with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Nilski utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Emelianenko working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Nilski's head.
Emelianenko stops Nilski from standing up.
Emelianenko trying to control the position from guard on top but Nilski is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Nilski is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Emelianenko is controlling him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Emelianenko drops back looking for a leg! Nilski is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Nilski manages to kick Emelianenko off! Emelianenko jumps back into Nilski's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Emelianenko postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Nilski wants to stand but Emelianenko is controlling the position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fedor Emelianenko dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Marian Nilski's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Nilski closes the distance and lands a one-two.
A left lands for Nilski.
Nilski throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Emelianenko stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Nilski dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Emelianenko throws a head kick that misses.
Emelianenko is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Nilski checks a leg kick.
Emelianenko's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Nilski connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Emelianenko scrambles back to his feet.
Nilski throws a right and a left that Emelianenko avoids nicely.
Nilski lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Emelianenko at a distance.
Nilski misses with the combination.
Nilski slaps away a takedown attempt from Emelianenko, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Nilski's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Nilski duly obliges.
Emelianenko takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Nilski ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Nilski connects with a superb combination that knocks Emelianenko out cold! The referee charges across the mat and tackles Nilski before he can land any more shots to the unconscious Emelianenko!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Marian Nilski!
