PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Erwin Korba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stu Mercer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mercer has chosen Trapt-Still Frame as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Stu Mercer has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Erwin Korba!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Stu Mercer!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Valeri Chadov and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mercer gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Mercer connects with a nasty looking knee right to Korba's face.
Nice elbow from Mercer.


It looks like Erwin Korba has been cut.
Mercer lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Korba tries to circle away but Mercer has him pinned against the ropes.
Korba is trying to drag Mercer to the mat but Mercer just about manages to keep his footing. He used the ropes to his advantage there.
Mercer lands a knee to the body.

Korba pulls guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Korba is on top in guard.
Korba slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Korba wants to control from the top but Mercer keeps moving.
Korba looking to pass the guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mercer can do anything to dispel that myth.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Korba controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Mercer utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Korba trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Korba trying to control but Mercer is working from the bottom.
Korba passes into half guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Korba is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Korba is trying to work for a kimura but Mercer is defending well.
Korba thows a huge punch but Mercer dodges it nicely.
Korba missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Korba works his way into side control.
Mercer really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Korba. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Korba slows the pace down.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mercer is looking to regain half guard here but Korba keeps moving and retains side control.
Korba landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.

Korba is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mercer knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Mercer is trying to get back to half guard.
Korba has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Mercer!

Korba looking to ground and pound but Mercer is blocking nicely.

Korba goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Mercer is on top in guard.

Korba throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Korba working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mercer doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Korba is tightening it up a little... Mercer has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Mercer reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Mercer taps out! Nice BJJ there by Korba!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Erwin Korba!
