The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roach throws a sloppy head kick

and Styles counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Roach gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Roach content to control rather than advance.
Roach's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Styles is trying to stand.
Roach seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Frank Roach just wasn't active enough.

Roach throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Styles was covering up waiting for the punch and Roach finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Styles is looking to improve his position.
Roach lands with a punch from half guard.
Styles pushes Roach off but Roach dives into side control.
Styles is trying to control Roach's posture but Roach avoids it.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Styles doesn't succeed with the takedown

so Roach counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Roach slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Styles utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Roach throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Styles works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Roach controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Roach has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Frank Roach.
Styles moves out of range of the body kick.
