PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between JR Powell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and lee kiesel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Powell's entrance music is Sound of Madness. A fine choice. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, lee kiesel!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Tiny Johnson and Frank Dennis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Powell fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. kiesel sprawls well initially but Powell persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Powell prevents kiesel from improving his position.
kiesel trying to control from the bottom.
kiesel regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Powell.
kiesel controls Powell momentarily but Powell frees himself.

Powell decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

kiesel gets in close and instigates a clinch.
kiesel keeps control of Powell as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
kiesel fails to pull guard.
kiesel blocks a punch to the side of the head.
kiesel is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
kiesel changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Powell fights it off and pushes away nicely.

and Powell counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
JR Powell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of lee kiesel.

Powell closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Powell is looking to break free of the clinch but kiesel has double underhooks.

Powell drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but kiesel manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Powell has kiesel in his guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Powell is looking to improve his position but kiesel isn't that keen on the idea.
kiesel misses with a head shot.
Powell is trying to escape the mount.
kiesel tries to control but Powell wriggling away.
Powell might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
kiesel prevents Powell from getting the reversal.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
kiesel tries to keep control of the position but Powell is staying busy.
kiesel is trying to stick to Powell's back but Powell is turning into kiesel. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in kiesel's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Powell.

Powell avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Powell stalks kiesel and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into kiesel's face. kiesel staggers backwards, shaken.

Powell shoots in but kiesel avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Nice sprawl there from Powell as kiesel shoots in.
Powell blocks a head kick by kiesel.
Powell tries to clinch but kiesel is having none of it.

Powell has managed to clinch.
Powell lands on the inside with an uppercut.
kiesel looking to stall.

JR Powell dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

kiesel shoots in and drives through. Powell sprawls well.
JR Powell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

kiesel bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
kiesel fails to land a wild elbow strike.
kiesel tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Powell is trying to work for a sweep but kiesel has mounted him!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Powell accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Powell looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Powell gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

kiesel is controlling the pace.
kiesel is looking to take a break and control but Powell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Powell misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Powell wants to get back to full guard.
Powell is trying to stand.
Powell makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Powell.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

kiesel jumps guard and drags Powell to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
