PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rupert Harmsworthy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Purpura Mortis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Harmsworthy's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Big Balls. Purpura Mortis will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Rupert Harmsworthy!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Purpura Mortis!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Wagner Zegers and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Harmsworthy or perhaps it was just good defense by Mortis which made him look bad.
Harmsworthy displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Mortis throws out the jab.
Mortis fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Harmsworthy shoots in for a takedown but Mortis shows good takedown defense.
Harmsworthy avoids the body shot from Mortis.
Nice sprawl there from Mortis as Harmsworthy shoots in.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rupert Harmsworthy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Harmsworthy looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mortis is fending him off so far but Harmsworthy persists. Nope, Mortis circles away and we're back to standing.
Mortis tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Harmsworthy was well out of range. Poor timing from Mortis.

Harmsworthy closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Harmsworthy lands in his opponent's guard.

Harmsworthy is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Mortis is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Mortis has escaped and now he's on top!

Mortis must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Harmsworthy has his foot on Mortis's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mortis works his way back into a safe position though.

Harmsworthy working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mortis doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mortis manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Purpura Mortis has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Mortis cracks Harmsworthy with a good jab.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Harmsworthy will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Purpura Mortis is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Mortis stuffs the takedown.
Mortis connects with a single shot there.
Mortis throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Harmsworthy takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Harmsworthy shoots in for a double leg but Mortis sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Harmsworthy shoots in and bounces Mortis off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Harmsworthy drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Harmsworthy jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Harmsworthy thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Mortis has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Harmsworthy drops back, looking for a kneebar! Mortis looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Mortis looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Mortis!

Mortis stands up and beckons Harmsworthy to his feet.
Harmsworthy shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Mortis counters with a crisp one two that drops Harmsworthy! Mortis thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Harmsworthy to his feet! Harmsworthy is in big trouble!


Harmsworthy is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mortis slaps away a takedown attempt from Harmsworthy, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Mortis misses with a body shot.

Harmsworthy feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Harmsworthy is fighting to break Mortis's control of his arms but Mortis is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Harmsworthy wants to control from the top but Mortis keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Purpura Mortis dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Mortis moves away from the strike by Harmsworthy.
A big left from Harmsworthy misses.
Mortis connects with a solid leg kick.
Mortis misses with a looping left.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Harmsworthy is defended easily by Mortis.
Harmsworthy lands with a right hand.
Harmsworthy tries for a takedown but Mortis circles away easily
and Harmsworthy takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Harmsworthy is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Mortis sees it coming and defends easily.
