PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Killa Bee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phil Macaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Phil Macaw will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Killa Bee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Phil Macaw!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, John Roberts and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Macaw gets the takedown into side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Macaw content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
It looks like Macaw might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Bee managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Macaw.
Macaw just content to control the position.
Bee could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

That's one minute gone in the round.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Phil Macaw hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Macaw rushes Bee and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Macaw escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Bee stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Bee wants it to stay on the feet.
Macaw throws a series of strikes that have Bee backpedaling.
Macaw shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Bee sprawls well. Bee wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Macaw gets slowly back to his feet.

and Bee counters with a nice double leg into side control. Macaw won't be happy with that.
Killa Bee has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Phil Macaw.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Macaw wants to control but Bee postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Macaw is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Macaw looks like he's trying to stand up.
Macaw tries to get to full guard but Bee has control of the leg.
Macaw controlling the position well.
Bee missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Macaw holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Bee is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Macaw reverses the position - he's now on top in Bee's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Macaw accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Macaw passes into half guard.
Macaw throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Bee might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Well, if Macaw is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Bee tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Macaw has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Macaw sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Macaw has hold of Bee's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Bee manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Macaw throws some wild stikes that Bee manages to avoid easily.
Macaw controlling from the full mount.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Macaw punching from mount but Bee doing a good job of avoiding damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phil Macaw dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Macaw closes the distance and pushes Bee back into the cage.
Bee is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Macaw pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Macaw unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Macaw gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.


It looks like Killa Bee has been cut.

Macaw breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Macaw lands a left and a right that send Bee crashing to the mat, dazed. Macaw thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Phil Macaw is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Macaw instigates a clinch.

Macaw decides to pull guard.
Macaw pulls Bee in close to his closed guard and prevents Bee from doing any damage or advancing position.
Bee throws a strike but Macaw rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Macaw slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Macaw controls the position.

Macaw has control of an arm but Bee manages to advance to Macaw's back!
Phil Macaw has got the better of the ground game so far.
Macaw breaks Bee's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Macaw slips nicely into half guard.
Macaw sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Bee defending well though.
Macaw controlling the action here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bee keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Macaw slows the pace down in half guard.
Bee wants to control but Macaw passes into side.
Macaw has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Bee!
Macaw tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Let's hope that Macaw has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

BOOM! Macaw connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Macaw looking to control and managing it successfully.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Macaw connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Macaw controlling his opponent.
Macaw landing punches.
Macaw takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Bee wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Bee is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Macaw scoring with strikes but Bee is staying in there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phil Macaw showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Killa Bee's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Macaw tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Bee swivels and escapes.
Macaw tries to clinch there but Bee circles away.
Macaw scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Bee closes the distance and clinches up with Macaw, looking for a takedown. Bee pushes Macaw against the cage but Macaw circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Macaw drives through and clinches with Bee against the cage.
A right handed body shot lands from Macaw.

Macaw's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

and Macaw counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.


Bee is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Macaw fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Bee to the ground. Macaw is now in Bee's guard.
Oh Bee is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Macaw wants to pass the guard but Bee is keeping the position.
Macaw engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Macaw sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Bee's guard.
Bee seems to have got his legs back now.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bee keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Bee wants to get back to full guard but Macaw has mounted him!

Macaw tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Bee wants to hold on but Macaw pushes him away.

Killa Bee has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Bee tries to lock up and control but Macaw gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Macaw sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Phil Macaw.
Bee fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Macaw avoids it really well and circles away.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Macaw throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Bee was covering up waiting for the punch and Macaw finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Macaw has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Phil Macaw hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Bee wants to take the fight to the mat but Macaw manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Killa Bee. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Macaw lands a nice knee to the body.
Macaw with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.

Macaw ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Macaw no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Macaw manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Bee manages to get himself to full guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bee tries to bench press Macaw off him but Macaw keeps the position.
Phil Macaw is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Bee on the wrong end of some ground and pound.

Phil Macaw comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Macaw has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
