PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Leandro Correia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aoki Aoki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Aoki has chosen Marcelo D2 - Desabafo as his entrance music. The key to victory for Leandro Correia has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Leandro Correia!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Aoki Aoki!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Richard Clark and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aoki avoids a punch combination nicely.
Correia lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Aoki is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Correia.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Aoki.
Correia is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Correia stops Aoki from passing to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Aoki trying to control the position but Correia is working away.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Aoki is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Correia is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Aoki is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Correia knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Aoki working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Aoki goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Correia has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Aoki but great work by Correia.
Correia wants to stand but Aoki has his arm trapped.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Aoki gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Correia knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Aoki on the ground.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Aoki is looking to improve his position.
Aoki moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Aoki has a closed guard, preventing Correia from standing up.
Aoki tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Aoki lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Correia!

Aoki is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Correia to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Correia shrugs it off.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Correia is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Aoki looking to control but Correia is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Aoki wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Correia fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Correia throws a series of punches but Aoki avoids them all with ease.
Correia tries to clinch but Aoki is having none of it.
Aoki showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Correia.

Correia tries to keep at a distance but Aoki has taken the fight into the clinch.
Aoki has Correia pressed against the cage, preventing Correia from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Correia avoids the elbow strike from Aoki, against the cage.

Correia breaks from the clinch.
Aoki tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Aoki throws out a leg kick but Correia moves out of range and Aoki only half commits.
A bone on bone clash there as Aoki blocks the leg kick.

Aoki gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Correia has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Aoki has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Correia regains guard immediately.

Aoki thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Aoki Aoki wasn't active enough on the ground.
Correia tries to clinch but Aoki moves out of range.
Aoki avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Aoki fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Correia sprawls well initially but Aoki persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Correia is refusing to be controlled, as Aoki sits in half guard.

Aoki is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Aoki seems to be working for a kimura but Correia defends the submission attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Correia is not content to let Aoki control the position.
Aoki is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Correia!

Aoki is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Correia is forced to tap! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Aoki Aoki!
Aoki Aoki is the new lightweight champion!
Aoki Aoki decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
