PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Paul Chapman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brantley Cermak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cermak has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! Brantley Cermak has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Paul Chapman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Brantley Cermak!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Hugh Johnson and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chapman connects with a looping right hand.
Cermak looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Chapman tries to clinch there but Cermak circles away.
Chapman dives in and grabs Cermak's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cermak pushes down on Chapman's head and hops out.
Chapman tries to close the distance and clinch up but Cermak swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Chapman shoots for a double leg takedown but Cermak sprawls well. He's pushed Chapman's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Chapman fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Chapman. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Chapman tries to score a power double leg takedown but Cermak sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Chapman somewhat.
Chapman shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Cermak as he avoids it easily.
Cermak takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Cermak leaves Chapman with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Chapman shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cermak pinned against the cage. Cermak gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Cermak wants to control from the top but Chapman keeps moving.

Chapman knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cermak on the ground.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Chapman working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cermak doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cermak manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cermak seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

That was a close second round but I would say that Paul Chapman will probably get the nod.

and Cermak decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Chapman's guard.
Cermak is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Cermak gets to his feet. Chapman looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Chapman wants to sweep here but Cermak controlling him for the moment.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Cermak loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Chapman might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Chapman working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Cermak has passed into half guard!
Chapman wants to get back to full guard but Cermak has passed into side control.
Cermak remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
