Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Michael Gattuso!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Matt Cochrane!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Sergei Dronov and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gattuso dives in and scores a takedown into Cochrane's guard.
Gattuso tries to free his leg and advance position but Cochrane is retaining full guard.
Gattuso is standing up over Cochrane. Cochrane looks to escape but Gattuso dives into side control.
Cochrane tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Check out the look on Gattuso's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Cochrane is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Gattuso looks up at the clock and then as Cochrane takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Gattuso smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Cochrane tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gattuso wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gattuso has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Cochrane pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Gattuso rushes Cochrane and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Cochrane wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Gattuso manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Gattuso manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cochrane manages to get himself to full guard.
Gattuso throws a big right hand that misses.
Cochrane not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Cochrane tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Gattuso forces his way into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cochrane is trying to maintain the position but Gattuso is very close to passing his half guard.

Gattuso has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Gattuso is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Cochrane defends it well.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Gattuso closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Cochrane quickly recovers to half guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Michael Gattuso wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Gattuso shoots in for a double leg but Cochrane sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cochrane pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Gattuso shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Cochrane as he avoids it easily.
Cochrane shoots in looking for a takedown but Gattuso manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Cochrane's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Gattuso is trying to trip Cochrane. He has hold of a leg but Cochrane is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Gattuso persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Cochrane escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gattuso gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Cochrane is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Gattuso is working Cochrane over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Cochrane wants to sweep but no luck.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Cochrane can do anything to dispel that myth.
Cochrane wants to stand up but Gattuso is controlling him.
Gattuso stands and throws Cochrane's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Cochrane is looking for a sweep.

Gattuso has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Cochrane keeps the fight on the outside.
Cochrane throws out a leg kick but Gattuso moves out of range and Cochrane only half commits.

Cochrane looking to score a takedown here. Gattuso is defending well but Cochrane drives through and ends up in Gattuso's guard.
Gattuso is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Cochrane is staying active underneath Gattuso, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gattuso passes into side control, despite Cochrane's attempt to control the position.

Gattuso can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Cochrane is looking to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gattuso controlling the position easily from mount.

Gattuso swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Cochrane is now in Gattuso's guard. A big mistake from Gattuso there, giving up the dominant position!

Gattuso might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cochrane is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Gattuso is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Gattuso has escaped and now he's on top!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Cochrane misses with a takedown attempt
and Gattuso counters with a nice low kick that buckles Cochrane's knee momentarily.
Gattuso scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cochrane.

Gattuso takes the fight into the clinch.
Cochrane is trying to pull guard but Gattuso turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Michael Gattuso has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matt Cochrane.

Gattuso has hold of one of Cochrane's legs. Cochrane is fighting the takedown attempt but Gattuso gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Gattuso seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Cochrane is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Gattuso scores with a couple of nice shots.

Gattuso is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Cochrane to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Cochrane shrugs it off.
Gattuso takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Gattuso's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Well Gattuso has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
