Schmelly is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Possibility. Barry Schmelly is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Barry Schmelly!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Micheangelo Fripello and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Meney.
Schmelly shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Meney as he jumps to the side.
Meney pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Schmelly uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Meney.
Schmelly shoots and misses
and Meney counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Schmelly shoots in but no luck this time.
Cheney Meney has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Barry Schmelly.
Meney connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Meney's corner calls for a 1-2. Meney obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Schmelly shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Meney but Meney pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Meney wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Meney throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Schmelly stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Meney stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Cheney Meney is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Meney rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Schmelly moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Meney scores with a nice right hand.
Schmelly misses with a takedown attempt - Meney sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Schmelly.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Schmelly doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Meney counters with a three punch combo that has Schmelly backing up. Schmelly nods at Meney to acknowledge the strikes.

Meney fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Schmelly looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Meney swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Meney misses with a series of wild punches.
Meney scores with a nice strike.
Schmelly is trying hard to land a takedown here. Meney sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Schmelly changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Meney looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Schmelly is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Meney knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Schmelly throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Meney's waist but Meney gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Schmelly off to one side.
Meney misses with a jab, cross combination.
A punch lands to the side of Schmelly 's head but he takes it in his stride.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Schmelly.

Schmelly scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Schmelly is trying to get an arm triangle but Meney is defending well.

Schmelly thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Schmelly tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Schmelly is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Meney is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Meney on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Meney tries to get out of the position.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Schmelly is looking to take a break and control but Meney is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Schmelly is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Meney has escaped the position, nice work there.

Schmelly is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Meney looks calm but he's in trouble here. Schmelly gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Meney is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Schmelly lets go of the hold and Meney can pop his arm back in it's socket.
