PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jake Bryant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ty Trevino (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jake Bryant!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ty Trevino!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Josh West and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bryant checks the leg kick nicely there.
Trevino shoots for a takedown but Bryant saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Bryant scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

You can see the frustration on Trevino's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Bryant has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Bryant could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Bryant looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Still in half guard, Bryant seems content to control.
Bryant drops an elbow to the side of Trevino's head.
Bryant is controlling the pace.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jake Bryant wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Bryant closes the distance and pushes Trevino back into the cage.
Bryant is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Trevino has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Bryant is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Trevino has had enough of the clinch but Bryant keeps him there for the moment.
Trevino wants to stall.
Bryant tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Trevino tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Bryant smiles and moves away.
Jake Bryant has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ty Trevino.
Trevino wants to clinch.
Trevino fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Bryant avoids it really well and circles away.
Trevino tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Bryant paws at him with a jab and circles away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Bryant throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Trevino tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Bryant is in Trevino's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bryant won't allow Trevino to sweep him here.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Jake Bryant.
Trevino fails to land with a series of punches.
Bryant shoots in looking for a takedown. Trevino tries to sprawl out of it but Bryant keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Trevino manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Trevino tries to improve position but can't.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Trevino is working to avoid the ground and pound but Bryant connects with a decent elbow.
Trevino is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Bryant dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Bryant darts in and clinches Trevino up against the cage.
Bryant throws a knee to the head but misses.

Bryant lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Trevino wants to get back to his feet.
Trevino wants to stand back up but Bryant manages to pass into side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Trevino takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Trevino tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Bryant wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Bryant is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Bryant moves into full mount!

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Bryant working for a guillotine from mount but Trevino is in no mood to give up.

Bryant is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Trevino has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Trevino!

Bryant scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Bryant shoots in for a takedown but Trevino shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Trevino tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bryant sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Trevino somewhat.

Bryant fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Trevino, pushing him back against the cage.
Bryant tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Trevino avoids it.

Bryant ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Bryant no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Trevino throws an elbow that misses. Bryant uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Trevino's guard. Nice move by Bryant!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

and Bryant holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Bryant tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Trevino just stands there and leans against the cage.
Bryant is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Trevino is looking to take this one to the mat.

Bryant's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Trevino thuds his shin into the meat of Bryant's side.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Bryant is defended easily by Trevino.
Trevino misses with a two punch combination.
Trevino misses with a wild combination.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bryant takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Bryant blocks a leg kick.

Bryant drives through and clinches with Trevino against the cage.
Bryant tries for a takedown but Trevino manages to get underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jake Bryant. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Trevino pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Bryant has managed to clinch.
Bryant wants to take the fight to the mat but Trevino manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Trevino tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Bryant just stands there and leans against the cage.
Bryant is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Trevino pulls him back up using the underhooks.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Bryant escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Bryant manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Trevino on his heels. He'll look to pass Trevino's guard now, I'm sure.
Trevino is trying to keep Bryant in close.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Bryantis looking to pass into half guard but Trevino pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Trevino is in guard.
Bryant wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Trevino stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bryant swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Jake Bryant overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Bryant is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bryant is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Bryant on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Bryant tries to get out of the position.

Bryant is looking for a triangle here but Trevino uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Trevino misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Trevino trying to control the action but Bryant is working from the bottom.

Trevino is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Bryant has escaped the position, nice work there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bryant defending against the ground and pound.
Bryant tries to improve position but can't.
Bryant is not content to let Trevino control the position.
Bryant bucks up and tries to throw Trevino off but instead Trevino has got his back!
Ty Trevino has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Bryant is trying to break free.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jake Bryant.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bryant, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
