PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tarzan Taborda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leonard Stam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Taborda might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to New Noise by Refused. Stam has chosen Tony Iommi - Grace as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Taborda. No joy for Stam on that attempt.
Taborda lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Taborda.

It looks like Leonard Stam has been cut.

Stam tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Taborda's elbow.

Taborda tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Stam jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Taborda walks away with a smile on his face. Stam gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Stam tries to clinch there but Taborda circles away.

Taborda shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Stam is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Taborda prevents Stam from getting the reversal.

Taborda stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Taborda pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Stam takes the fight into the clinch.

Taborda is trying to maintain a safe position but Stam gets an underhook and turns Taborda into the cage.
Taborda lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Stam turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Taborda is not content to let Stam control the position.

Stam tries for a kimura but Taborda is defending well.
Taborda throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Taborda tries to escape but Stam is in control.

Stam wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Taborda, who protects the arm well.

Stam is trying to get an arm triangle but Taborda is defending well.

Taborda is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Stam has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Stam tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Stam has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Stam is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Taborda is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Taborda manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Taborda wants to work for an arm triangle but Stam is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Stam wants to improve his position but Taborda is controlling well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Stam tries to close the distance and clinch up but Taborda swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Stam shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Taborda is trying to defend but Stam finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Stam decides to return to a standing position.
Stam with a nice cross.
Stam closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Stam looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Taborda is fending him off so far but Stam persists. Nope, Taborda circles away and we're back to standing.
