PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ray Munch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Keasty Kanne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Keasty Kanne!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Paul Tew and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Munch shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kanne's guard.
Munch sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Munch trying to control but Kanne is working from the bottom.

Munch pushes down on Kanne's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Munch wants to take a breather but Kanne is having none of it.

Munch's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Kanne closes the distance and pushes Munch back into the cage.

Kanne escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A jab from Munch finds it's way through Kanne's defenses.
Munch tries to work over Kanne's front leg with a kick but Kanne checks it.
Kanne displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Munch.
Kanne lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!


It looks like Ray Munch has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Kanne tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Munch swivels and escapes.

Munch is trying to push Kanne away but Kanne has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Munch is working for takedown but Kanne is calmly controlling the position for now.

Munch is trying to drag Kanne to the mat but Kanne just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Munch is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Munch has a couple of punches blocked by Kanne.
Kanne is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Munch is defending well for now.
Kanne is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Munch pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Kanne keeps control of Munch as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Munch is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Munch lands a right hand that snaps the head of Kanne backwards.
Kanne can't get the takedown.
Ray Munch has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Keasty Kanne.
Munch wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Kanne has him pressed against the cage.

Kanne ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Kanne no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Munch tries to score a body lock takedown but Kanne shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Kanne gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Munch.

Kanne jumps guard but Munch turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Munch's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Kanne breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Munch lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kanne circles away quickly and effectively.
Keasty Kanne seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Kanne gets a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Keasty Kanne showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Munch shoots in and bounces Kanne off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Munch in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Munch trying to control but Kanne is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Munch throws an elbow that misses. Kanne uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Munch's guard. Nice move by Kanne!
Munch wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Kanne is now in half guard.

Munch tries to get to full guard but Kanne has control of the leg.
Kanne is looking to pass Munch's guard but actually Munch recovers to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Munch seems keen to control Kanne's posture.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ray Munch wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Kanne throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Munch's waist but Munch gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kanne off to one side.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jab, jab by Munch - just one landing.
Kanne scores with a one two! Munch had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Munch lands a glancing blow to the side of Kanne's head.
Kanne stuffs the takedown attempt from Munch. Munch gets slowly back to his feet.

Kanne rushes Munch and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Kanne is trying to maintain a safe position but Munch gets an underhook and turns Kanne into the cage.

Munch has Kanne pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Munch pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Kanne tumbling to the mat - Munch dives into Kanne's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Munch stands and steps away. Kanne gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Munch blocks an elbow strike.
Kanne throws a knee to the head but misses.
Munch taking a breather.
Munch slowing the pace effectively.
Munch fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Kanne tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kanne blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Kanne jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Munch walks away with a smile on his face. Kanne gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Munch ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kanne moves away.

Kanne closes the distance and clinches.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ray Munch.
I think Kanne has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
