PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dean Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Trevor Robertson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Dean Martin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Trevor Robertson!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, William Gold and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Robertson's waist but Robertson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Martin off to one side.
Trevor Robertson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Robertson misses with a low kick as Martin jumps back.
Martin cracks a nice hook into Robertson's ribs.
Robertson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Robertson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Robertson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Robertson jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Robertson misses with an uppercut.
Martin shoots in looking for a takedown. Robertson tries to sprawl out of it but Martin keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Robertson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Robertson shoots in for a takedown but Martin shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Martin fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dean Martin. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Martin lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Robertson has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Robertson and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
A bone on bone clash there as Martin blocks the leg kick.
Robertson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Martin manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Martin shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Robertson sprawls well. Robertson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Martin gets slowly back to his feet.

Robertson looking to throw knees to the head but Martin is blocking nicely.
Martin is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Robertson is defending well.
Robertson swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Robertson is trying to pull guard but Martin turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Robertson trying to control the position but instead, Martin has worked for underhooks and has pushed Robertson into the cage.
Robertson seems frustrated at his inability to get double underhooks.

Robertson is fighting off a takedown attempt but Martin is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Robertson to the mat. Robertson regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Robertson can't keep his opponent in guard - Martin advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Martin thows a huge punch but Robertson dodges it nicely.

Martin seems to be looking for submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Martin seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Martin seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Robertson can do anything to dispel that myth.
Robertson wants to get back to his feet.

Robertson is refusing to be controlled, as Martin sits in half guard.
Robertson is looking to get back to is feet but Martin passes into side control.

Martin decides to stand back up.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Martin is defended easily by Robertson.
Martin fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Robertson avoids it really well and circles away.

Martin manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Robertson on his heels. He'll look to pass Robertson's guard now, I'm sure.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Robertson is trying to control the position from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Robertson pulls Martin in close to prevent any damage.
Robertson looks gassed!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Martin accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dean Martin dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Robertson throws a low kick but Martin avoids it.

Robertson is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Martin decides to stand up, so the ref orders Robertson to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Martin tries to break free but Robertson pushes him back against the cage.
Robertson connects with a nasty looking knee right to Martin's face.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Robertson has Martin pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Martin manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Martin drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Martin is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Robertson to keep the fight standing.
Martin blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Martin has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Robertson uses from the top position.
Martin throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Robertson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Martin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Martin bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Robertson's guard.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Robertson has momentary wrist control but Martin slips an elbow through the middle.
Martin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Martin decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dean Martin dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Martin moves out of range of the body kick from Robertson.

Robertson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Martin is trying hard to land a takedown here. Robertson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Robertson is trying to control Martin's posture but Martin avoids it.

Martin is trying to get an arm triangle but Robertson is defending well.
Martin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Robertson keeps working.

Martin wants to control but Robertson is keeping him busy.
Martin lands an elbow.

Robertson tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Trevor Robertson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Robertson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Martin is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Robertson with him. Robertson is trying to defend but Martin has an arm under the chin now! Robertson grimaces and is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Dean Martin!
