Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Damon Pierce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Derek Vinyard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pierce's entrance music is Eve 6 - Inside Out. A fine choice. Vinyard is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Here Comes The Pain. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

With a record of 20 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Derek Vinyard!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Donatello Bradman and Damien Edna.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pierce keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Vinyard.
Vinyard connects with an inside leg kick.
No luck for Pierce with that takedown attempt.
Pierce slips a straight right by Vinyard.

Pierce drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Pierce passes Vinyard's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vinyard slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Pierce wants to control from the top but Vinyard keeps moving.

Vinyard really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pierce. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Derek Vinyard has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Vinyard feints a jab promting Pierce to slip. Vinyard then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Pierce slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Vinyard throws a low kick but Pierce moves out of range easily.
Vinyard throws the left hand but Pierce avoids the punch easily.

Pierce has his foot on Vinyard's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Vinyard works his way back into a safe position though.
Vinyard looking to sit in guard and control but Pierce gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Vinyard looking to hit a scissor sweep but Pierce is one step ahead there.

Pierce has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Pierce is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Vinyard is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Pierce is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Pierce thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Vinyard's head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Pierce working over Vinyard with some ground and pound. Vinyard looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Pierce stops Vinyard from getting back to his feet.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Pierce is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Pierce connects with a nice short shot to Vinyard's temple.

That was a close round but I would say that Damon Pierce will probably get the nod.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Vinyard sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Pierce in particular looking to stall.
