PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Sosha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Willbanks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sosha comes to the cage accompanied by Hysteria-Muse. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ryan Sosha!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Willbanks!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Elvis Blanc and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Willbanks shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Sosha napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Sosha manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Willbanks moves into full guard.
Willbanks will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Sosha gets to his feet. Willbanks looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Sosha could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Sosha throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Willbanks tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Sosha is in Willbanks's guard.
Sosha wants to get up but he can't break Willbanks's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Willbanks is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sosha is controlling him.
Willbanks keeping moving, preventing Sosha from controlling successfully.

Sosha drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Sosha jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Willbanks can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sosha controls the pace.

Willbanks has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Sosha is trying to keep an underhook but Willbanks manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Willbanks closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Sosha's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sosha is on top in guard.

Sosha gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Willbanks throws a head kick that Sosha semi-blocks.

Willbanks shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sosha is trying to maintain the position but Willbanks is very close to passing his half guard.

Willbanks is working for a submission of some sort.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sosha wants to control but Willbanks is keeping busy.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Willbanks looks to land a strike but Sosha avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Sosha.

Willbanks has clasped his hands together around Sosha's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
You can see the frustration on Sosha's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Sosha manages to work his way to half guard, despite Willbanks's best efforts.
Willbanks takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Willbanks is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Ryan Sosha overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Sosha is pulling down on Willbanks's head. It's preventing any offense from Willbanks, at least for the moment.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
