PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Bloggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leonard Stam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stam has chosen Tony Iommi - Grace as his entrance music. Leonard Stam told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 16 - 0, fighting out of London, Joe Bloggs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 19 - 0, fighting out of London, Leonard Stam!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Donald Grub and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bloggs bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Stam wants to control but Bloggs postures up.
Bloggs working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Bloggs creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Stam sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Bloggs misses with the ground and pound.
Stam is trying to buck Bloggs off.

Bloggs tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Bloggs is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Stam knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Stam is pushing Bloggs's head away, looking to escape. Bloggs manages to hold on to the position though.
Bloggs working the ground and pound.
Bloggs has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Stam throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Bloggs lands a nice hook to Stam's body. Stam takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Stam is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Bloggs's half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stam seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Bloggs wants to control but Stam is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Stam is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Bloggs sees it coming and defends easily.

Stam is looking for a kimura but Bloggs is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Stam to get the leverage.

Bloggs manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Bloggs takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A slow jab from Bloggs misses its intended target.
Stam slips a straight right by Bloggs.
Bloggs moves out of range of the strikes.
Bloggs slips a jab from Stam.
Bloggs tries to clinch but Stam is having none of it.
Bloggs looks to land a right hand but Stam moved out of range.
Bloggs attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Stam changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Bloggs moves out of range of the strikes.
Bloggs shoots in for a takedown but Stam shows good takedown defense.
Bloggs throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Bloggs takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stam throws a big shot that misses.
Stam wants to clinch.
Stam tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Bloggs paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Bloggs takes the fight into the clinch.
Bloggs working hard to break the clinch.
A short right from Stam.
Bloggs will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Stam up against the cage.

Bloggs manages to break the clinch.
Joe Bloggs seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd cheers as Bloggs lands an impressive looking overhand right. Stam doesn't seem phased though.
Bloggs is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Bloggs cracks a nice hook into Stam's ribs.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Stam fails in his attempt to clinch.
Bloggs misses with a straight right.

Bloggs takes the fight into the clinch.

Stam's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Bloggs shoots and misses
and Stam counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Stam tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Bloggs paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Stam throws a shot to the body.
Stam avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Bloggs misses the jab.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
The fight stays on the outside here - Bloggs looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Stam throws out a loose jab but Bloggs uses good head movement to avoid it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Leonard Stam will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Bloggs feints and then cracks Stam's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Stam down.
Stam tries to clinch up.
Stam looks to throw the jab but Bloggs is out of range.
Bloggs punishes Stam's body with a nice straight punch.
Bloggs tries to grapple but his opponent circles
enabling Stam to counter with a crisp jab.
Bloggs throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Stam takes one to the chin there.
Bloggs throws a sloppy head kick
and Stam connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
A punch combination from Stam misses.

Stam drives through and clinches with Bloggs against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Stam breaks the clinch.

Stam gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Bloggs to score an easy takedown into full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bloggs missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Stam uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Stam looks to land a left hand but Bloggs moved out of range nicely.
Leonard Stam is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Bloggs fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Stam manages to avoid it.
Bloggs misses with a hook.
Stam fails to land with a series of punches.
Bloggs throws a leg kick that is checked
and Stam counters with a leg kick.
Bloggs shoots in looking for a takedown but Stam manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Bloggs's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Stam tries to close the distance and clinch but Bloggs swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Stam takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Stam throws a low kick but Bloggs avoids it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

and Bloggs counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Leonard Stam seems to be getting the better of the standup.

enabling Bloggs to counter with a crisp jab.
Bloggs takes one to the side of the head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Oooooh!!! Stam has knocked Bloggs down with a huge combo! Stam steps away and waves a wobbly Bloggs back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!


Bloggs is rocked!


It looks like Joe Bloggs has been cut.
Stam is throwing a storm of strikes! Right hook, left hook and follows it up with a spinning back fist! Bloggs hits the canvas like a rag doll! And just like that, this one is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:31 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Leonard Stam!
