The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Holmes tries to clinch there but Hinrichts circles away.
Holmes fails with a takedown attempt.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Holmes.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Holmes has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Hinrichts!

Holmes looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Holmes lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Holmes is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Holmes scores with a takedown into Hinrichts's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Holmes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Holmes thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Holmes pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hinrichts is keeping the position for now.
Holmes has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Holmes throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Holmes is pushing down on Hinrichts's leg trying to pass to half guard. Hinrichts is fighting to maintain full guard but Holmes has managed to sneak the leg through.

Holmes is looking for a kimura but Hinrichts is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Holmes to get the leverage.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Holmes is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hinrichts is just riding it out for now. Holmes eventually gives up the hold.

Hinrichts can't do much from the bottom here.

Holmes has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Hinrichts is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Holmes yanks on the arm and Hinrichts is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Holmes.
